The great man passed away yesterday.
As a youngster, I absolutely idolised this man, & he had quite a career, & life.
I hope you take a moment to read his Wiki page, which has some quite fascinating stuff about him, including the bizarre tranfer dealings, & his kidnapping.
He was Honorary President of Real Madrid, for whom he scored an astonishing 216 goals in 282 appearences in what was, for me, the golden age of football.
He scored in five successive European Cup Finals.

This was England v Rest of the World, 1963.
The England Captain was Jimmy Armfield, & that's Bobby Moore behind him. Also in the England Team were Gordon Banks, Geo Eastham, Bobby Smith, Jimmy Greaves, Terry Paine & Bobby Charlton.
The ROW Team included Di Stefano, Denis Law, Ferenc Puskas, Eusobio, Jim Baxter, Uwe Seeler & the legendary 'keeper of that era, Lev Yashin.

RIP.
Interesting that England team from 63 only features 4 of the starters from the 66' final (Banks, Wilson, Moore and Bobby Charlton).

Losing a number of the all time greats this year.
Di Stefano played before my time, but I have been lucky enough to chat to Brian Glanville on a number of occasions while in a football press room or two. Brain, a man whose age and eloquence always makes you think he's seen every professional football match ever played, held Di Stefano in the highest regard when it came to greats of the game. Here is his Di Stefano obit

I can't imagine a more talent filled game than that England v RotW one either. So many of the greats.
