Okay, this might sound like a mild whinge. It really isn't. Just something I noticed.

Every now and then I throw on an old poker show just to see how things have changed and I guess just laugh at how simple poker used to be. On the last hand of High Stakes Poker Season 4 Episode 16, Patrick Antonious raises with the 82dd, flops a flush and pots 3 streets into Negreanu who makes an absolutely horrible calldown. Anyway, at the end of the hand, Doyle remarks "I remember when I was younger, I used to shoot the 82 of diamonds and flop a flush."

Now I was just thinking the same thing the other day. When I first started doing this shit for a job, I'd raise with a napkin and that card that comes with the hand rankings on it and flop a flush something like 1 in 3. It was ridiculous. Nowadays I just don't hit flushes, on flops nor turns nor rivers, even if I have clubs. What I have noticed though, is that any time I play with someone younger than myself - some aspiring young poker pro with nothing but a 6 buyin bankroll and a dream - they will give me the barrels with the T3ss and back into something suited and delicious. I think it every time, and say it occasionally, "I remember when that used to be me."

My question, if I have one, is why does it seem like this is the case? I thought about selective memory and that's not it, because any time after starting to think "that used to be me," and now, I would really focus in on the feeling of "holy shit it does still happen, even at my age." I thought about increased sample size, but that shouldn't make a difference; I should still make 1 in 3 after flopping a draw, and should very occasionally flop a flush. I know it can be done, I've seen some gentlemen even older than myself flop a flush. [citation needed]

Unrelated: I've been accepted for a new job and should be starting before the end of the year

You can run really bad over whatever sample you've played mate. Just happened to be one of the negative strands on the variance string.

Love this hand! Belton is the best.  Also, it's really hard to win with a Queen and a Queen

Think that's his point should still be getting it in with like 11% equity and
getting there. Variance hey.
