We are in the BB with . It's 50nl we both have about 100 bb.

It folds round to the small blind, he 3xes to £1.50

I just called. I 3 bet him quite a lot, so decided just to call this time.

Flop  Two Diamonds (pot £3)

He over bets the pot £4  (pot £11)

We call. It's a bit of a strange bet, never really does this usually bets 60/75% pot with strong hands. Maybe it was a misclick.

Turn is  , he bets £9. I call. (£29)

River is  , he moves all in. What would you do?

It was quite tough, I thought his line looked a bit fos though.

Yeah, everyone I've spoke to about the hand was unanimous it should be a 3 bet.

The particularly bad thing is he doesn't fold to 3 bets at all, if ever.

The reason I just called pre, was to try and get 2 streets of value.

Over 3 betting, he calls, and folds when he misses most flops.

This probably is a bit flawed, I agree should have been a 3 bet.

I called.

I don't think he does this with the King of Diamonds or Ace of D.

Tho, he could have some Ace D here.

If the bets smaller, I think there's defo a good shout for folding.

He had Ace 2, no diamond.

Overall, feel the hand was played badly generally by myself - stemming from the lack of 3 bet pre flop, despite the outcome of the hand.

So, why do we not three bet? If we've been 3bing him loads and hes now not folding to those 3bs, it seems very counter-intuitive to pick up a premium hand and the not want to put more money in the pot. Like this is a slam dunk 3b.

The reason I just called pre, was to try and get 2 streets of value.

As for this, have a bit of a think about it. First, even though we have a pretty good hand, there are a lot of board run outs where we aren't going to be able to go for two streets, let alone have him call/bet two streets. Even if he wasn't particularly stationy, this sort of thinking just isn't going to win us money long term. If we get two streets, what are we talking? Right now, we're winning £1.50. If we call, and he cbets to like 2, we're winning £3.50. If he then bets again, or if he checks and we bet, we're gonna get like another fiver out of him tops on a turn, so we're winning like £8.50 on the board run outs that are good for our hand and good for him to bet twice at, or have something to check call with. If we 3b pre to like £4.50, which seems reasonable, and he calls, then we're already winning more than we did in the previous example one street earlier. If we then cb half pot and he calls, then we're instantly winning more then in the previous example, again one street earlier. We've also got a lot more control over things if the board runs out badly for us, rather than blindly planning on going call/call.

Fwiw even if you have an aggressive image I may not 3bet pre

People way way under defend bvb especially at micro stakes 3betting j3o and calling jj could very very likely be the best play. People stuck in the micros often know people are aggressive but don't do anything about it. Heck if he really was employing a good defence strategy he'd probably be limping his entire range vs you.

Jj is usually a standard 3bet for most people but it doesn't mean you should do it. Like in this hand he folds pre flop but we call with a very good bluffcatcher and stack him.

Don't be scared to go against the trends or what people think is standard as long as you have reasoning for it then good IMO.

The one obvious reason it's bad is if he doesn't fold to 3bets which is what you said.

Was just trying to illustrate that most people 3bet bvb w/jj 99.9% but it doesn't necessarily mean it's good.
