amazing they didn't gtd this at $1m for first to avoid all this bad publicity. They could still have given all the casuals a chance to cash and churn the cash back through the wsop a 2nd time but dodge the 5.7% first prize issue by making it a headline $1m for $500 buy in. Seems very odd.

I'm guessing its done purely for economics, as WSOP numbers are down fairly sharply across the board so far. Safe bet future series/festivals will be following flatter payout structures given the state of the poker economy. The major gripe I would have as a player would be the structure not been announced beforehand as it is extreme to almost all other comps.

I don't really get why they didn't make it a million for first either.
Flatter is inheriently fairer and lowering the variance of MTTS should not be sniffed at.
Someone put the SCOOP comparison up earlier, so which of these is better?
1st $200k
10th $8k
19th $4k
or
1st $640k
10th $56k
19th $32k
I know everybody likes the headline big number, but long run I think I'd prefer the 2nd one.

I think that most people would prefer the prize pool with $516K extra in it, all other things being equal.

I'm assuming (my own personal opinion, I was off yesterday/today so have not seen any of the suits I work with to ask and wouldn't ask lol) that the reason they didnt guarantee $1m is because this weekend we have a massive tournament called the "Millionaire Maker" that guarantees $1m

Didn't these people check what the prize structure was before buying in?
