Tournament earnings might be a modest percentage of his income. Exhibitions, pool comps, money matches, sponsorship, coaching, county/league appearances and so on will all require him to be practicing regularly.
I'm just equating it to - for want of a better expression - your bogstandard chess international master or grandmaster.
No idea about his personal circumstances of course. Maybe he loves snooker more than he loves money. Good for him if so.
Agreed. On his wiki page sounds like he has always played part time with other jobs so fair play to him. I just often wondered how he had been a snooker pro for 24 years when he had won virtually nothing.

I doubt they're paying him £10 an hour to coach the Qatar national team...

Fwiw and I maybe the only one that didn't know, but I went past a truck belonging to the unfortunately named ISIS freight company.
I wondered if that has started to impact their business at all. Can't help.
I presume that may be the sponsor. That or maybe he is off to Syria when he gets knocked out?!

The family respectfully asks that the news media avoid playing into the hostage takers’ hands and refrain from publishing or broadcasting photographs or video distributed by the hostage takers.
"We prefer our son is written about and remembered for his important work and the love he shared with friends and family, not in the manner the hostage takers would use to manipulate Americans and further their cause.”

Would a Muslim play money matches?

Yo, this ISIS situation is an assault on humanity and we are all engaged in a war on terror so I'm afraid individual families don't get to call the shots. It is a infinitely bigger situation than their individual grief. Whilst I feel for their tragic loss I don't believe Ed Kassig is suitably qualified to tell me what the best strategies are to defeat this current terror threat, at the end of the video he also requests "time to forgive", I don't like or agree with that strategy either.

Noted.
Had I known that, I'd not have posted the photos.
I take the point The Rt Hon Mantis makes, but the parents of a son who had just had his head lopped off really are entitled to a bit of respect in what must be, for them, a terrible time.
