Joan Collins became a Dame yesterday, though heaven knows why.

Amazingly, she is 81. The lady in red is her Daughter, & might pass for being Joan's mum.

I had a foot operation when I was about ten and that lady (Tara Newley) was in the same ward at hospital as me.

(Joan didn't come and visit)

Seeing that picture makes me feel very old indeed.

Syrian girl thought the photojournalist was holding a weapon, so she "surrendered"

I really don't want to be, but I can't help feeling a bit sceptical about that photograph.

Ditto.
Kids that age seem to naturally raise their arms or shrug or maybe even tip their heads from side to side when you are talking to them, especially if they're a bit shy, it's probably an unconscious gesture by the little girl and clever captioning by the reporter.
That said, if it highlights the plight of children in refugee camps......

Thousands online have shared an image of a Syrian child with her hands raised in surrender - but what is the story behind it?

Hmm, still not buying it.
I don't think its a natural reaction to surrender of when faced with a weapon anyway, I reckon most people would just be cowering in fear.
Hope to God I never find how I'd react. Sadly there are children out there who are facing such traumas every day. I just think this particular photographer is using a little artistic licence.

Im pretty sure this type of image 'thought it was a weapon' is a trope of sorts. Almost 1000% certain I've seen it before.

Why no discussion about that Monarch Airlines Airbus?

Incredible picture. Moving, too. Sideways.

Am I being whooshed again, I ask myself?.......

It was attempting to land, in gale force winds.

No. You're not being whooshed. Why, was it a daft question?

I'm with Paul Potts on this one, tikay.

'Planes don't land on one wheel. They have one on the other side, too, so they can land on both. Much safer that way. Surprised you didn't know that tbh.

Well I get whooshed so often these days.

Not a daft question as such, but it had to be landing, it would not get that much out of shape on take off.

I almost replied to Tom's original question with "yes".......

Anyway I have a bone to pick with you. You just made a post on FRED, two sentences, two exclamation marks. Disgraceful. Bangorrhea is not something I expect from one so learned as you.
