The planes are from the Duxford air show.  Am taking the girls there next week after the show has finished.

And you will know, as most of us will, that this year is the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Britain, hence the old and new aircraft.

As to that flotilla of boats, again, one readily assumed that everyone knows today is the anniversary of Dunkirk.

Then there is the unmistakeable figure of the much loved Sir Ian Botham, playing some golf.

*thinks*

Ooh, look at those trousers.

Good lord, who ate all the pies?

Monaco Grand Prix this weekend, Mr Dog.

Jeremy "used to work for the BBC and be a much loved yet controversial figure, but it went spectacularly wrong" Clarkson went on Chris "used to work for the BBC and be a much loved yet controversial figure, but it went spectacularly wrong" Evans's radio show this week to explain why he's a silly man.

There was also a pro-am golf thing going on, where I infer Mr Evans and Mr Clarkson swung clubs about, as did two Novacastrians: former England footballer Alan Shearer and half a tv presenter, 'n'Dec.

Seems like there was also the annual badly camouflaged 'plane mating season and the Queen got fed up of rush hour traffic to St James's Palace so boated up the Thames instead.

Think that covers it. Not sure I got the last two exactly right, but close enough.

That take on Chris Evans (one time villain, now BBC2 father figure), and Mr Clarkson, currently out of fashion with the Beeb, is exactly how I saw it.

And a few hours later, Chris was playing golf near his home, in Wentworth. But not Jeremy.

The latest "must-have" for the good & great is an Apple Watch, the up-market versions of which cost $12,000. They do keep good time though.

Driver Ed Carpenter was unhurt after this crash in practice for the Indy 500.

So far, 4 cars have "flipped" during practice for the race.

The Irish gay marriage referendum was marred by the interjection of Paddy Power with its shock ad.

Everyone in Ireland is familiar with the phrase 'Tiocfaidh Ár Lá', the slogan of the IRA throughout most of "The Troubles", which means 'Our Day Will Come'. The ad is clever and amusing, but I'm not sure it is acceptable when it will be seen by the families of people killed by the IRA.

No doubt Paddy just went for the pure shock value, but if you see it as a representation of how far Ireland's come, I think it's ok. Never going to be acceptable to some people of course. But gone from a very stern, strict Catholic country to being the first country in the world to legalise gay marriage via a popular vote, and one that wasn't even close! Fantastic stuff.
