It's incredible, isn't it? The moment I saw the photo I knew she was Nixon's daughter.

I used to wear shirts with collars like that. I had a beautiful paisley one that the girls used to swoon over.

I saw today that Lord Sewel's middle name is Buttifant.

John Buttifant Sewel.

Not sure how you get a name like that.

Wiki now lists him as Baron Sewel, whereas the media have been calling him Lord Sewel. (Or Ex-Lord?).

Is there a difference between a Baron & a Lord?

The British Library is now a Grade 1 Listed Building. Official.

Normally, buildings have to be at least 30 years old before receiving Listed status from English Heritage.

They made an exception here - it is just 17 years old - because of it's architectural magnificence.

So there you go, that told us.

Lord is a general term, covering any male* member of the peerage: Dukes, Earls, Marquesses, Viscounts and Barons (I think I've got the order right). They can all sit in the upper chamber, subject to any parliamentary impediments.

By way of example, The Lord S'Rallan Sugar is Baron Sugar of Clapton in the London Borough of Hackney.

* the first Marquess of Pembroke may have objected to this generalisation.

How about Marquessate for your next word?

They may be all Lords to us, but the different grades of Lord are very important to them, because each level can regard all the levels below as oiks. So far as I remember, Barons are essentially the trailer-trash of Lordness and all the Counts, Viscounts and Earls don't like them in case they start drinking Carlsberg Special, rolling their own fags or sniffing coke off prostitutes' breasts.

There's a wonderful story (true or otherwise) of a gala Napoléon gave for the great and the very great. He decided that, when a president entered, there was to be a fanfare to welcome them to the ballroom. When a King or queen arrived, they would have two fanfares. Of course, Napoléon, as an emperor, would receive three.

The King of (let's say) Poland arrived and the horn players immediately played a fanfare and then a second. Just as they began a third fanfare, a courtier furiously sprinted to silence them, uttering a sentence surely never said before or since.

Taissez vous! Il n'est qu'un roi!

Translated as...

Shut up! He's only a king!
