Did I hear the sound of a falling gauntlet, Tighty?

161 remain with ten minutes before the break.

A long slog to get here and an even longer one ahead.

meanwhile across the bottom floor is a real table

Alex Goulder
Alex Spencer
Wadey
Mad Turk

all sat in seats 5-9

looking like two choirboys and two gangsters thrown together in a weird altar-lock up combo

as i arrive at the table Spencer has raised and Goulder has called in the big blind

they both check three clubs

Goulder leads for 15,000 on the Two Clubs turn

Spencer calls

river

Goulder 40,000

Spencer looks up from his cajun chicken long enoguh to call and Goulder says "no pair"

Spencer shows two spades two hearts to win the pot

--

i continue to watch and its all raise fold until a short-stack doubles through Wadey, shoving Q-J, Wadey calls in the big blind with Ace-King and loses to a flopped queen

unfortunately, as the TV rigging has added a lot of paraphanealia to the room i am unable to exit sharply

i am caught

wadey rises and saunters towards me

i know what is coming, and it is unavoidable

"lost three times with kings to an underpair this tournament."

pause

"each time on the river"

pause

"now he flops a queen"

"can't believe it"

i take my medicine, and eventually make my excuses

poker updaters should get aural danger money

Leigh Wiltshire has decided he wants to let someone else win this year. Having just met the chap, he seems nice and took his exit like a gent (story is a slightly dull succession of running into better hands and not getting therrrrrre).

I would have done this:

On table 33, John Engledow shoves his shortstack over the 17k open of Michael Welland.

AQ matches up poorly against AK.

It's no prettier after a king on the flop and Engledow departs.

Gary Bryan lasts one hand longer, his 16bb J5o cut off shove not defeating Kev Williams's AQ.

Dewi James is up over 800,000

to be fair to me, given my surprise at this turn of events, my eyebrows only shifted slightly higher when he confirmed his stack to me

"a lot of big hads, Aces, ace king" he tells me is the simple story of his progress to over double average.

long may it continue

--

Paul McTaggart is also in the upper echelons of the field, well over 700,000 on the bottom tier. Keep waiting to see him play a hand, only to be left wanting, but i will keep trying

Gareth Brideaux opens to 17,000 and Chris Vernon calls in the cut off

Osman Mustanoglou calls on the button and former grand priz winner Tan Le calls in the big

it comes

All four players check

Brideaux 23,000

Vernon and Le call

all check to Vernon who bets 40,000 playing around 300,000

Le folds

Brideaux calls

"i am playing the board" says Vernon

Brideaux shows him

Vernon sighs

"i was leaning" he says

"remind me not to try that" i reply

Moving on to the next table i only arrive at the board of 3-2-3-6-8

Ballymore chris in the big blind has led for 25,000 on the river into alex goulder, who ponders

Goulder who is another big stack of a day of quick exits and huge stacks being built, calls

"King high" says Chris

Goulder almost imperceptibly appears to begin to muck, when Chris revelas KJdd

Goulder flips K-J too

everyone loves a chop pot, especially with no pair between them

King of spades on the river

Jackson 40,000

fold

Jackson shows 2-2 for the flopped house
