There's a young Sky Poker qualifier here called Ross Bennett. remember the name. seen him a few times in community events and he's going to be good

Michael Welland raised and he called in the blinds

it came     three diamonds

Bennett led, with Queen Jack and was called

the turn came the

he checked and Welland shoved 340,000, a big overbet

Bennett described afterwards how he figured that "it couldn't be the made flush, he'd try and let me hang myserlf on the river. Had to be a big draw, maybe a combination hand"

Playing only 400,000 so a tournament defining read, he called and found himself having to fade   . A combination hand it was

the river bricked, Welland (if i have the name right) went out and Bennett is up to 750,000+

On Table Luske/Jackson (22), David Lloyd serves 20k from seat 7 (yep, under the gun). It is folded to the man in the waistcoat, who flats from the cutoff. The big blind, Chris Radford, dwells. And dwells.

He reaches for chips, deeply. Now goes for the amber, 25k ones and makes it 60k to speak.

In my day, squeezing an under the gun open was borderline ungentlemanly. I suppose this is the Fifty Shades Generation, where such actions are not just acceptable, but encouraged. Two folds follow.

Radford wins the next hand, too, meaning he added healthily to his stack in the two most expensive seats. At this stage of proceedings, these pots make a huge difference.

the irony of tikay's double up, and i am reporting this factually, is that a camera crew and hand reporter stood behind him for two levels waiting for him to bust so it could be filmed for the TV show

the moment they left, give a minute or two, his stack was in and he'd doubled

one of the bigger stacks that i missed recording on my run down the big stacks earlier was chris dowling

he'd moved to alex goulder/spencer's table and since appears to have climbed into the top 10

very approximately 800,000+

Chris, ubiquitously known as "ballymore chris" is a frequent visitor to DTD from the Republic of Ireland

not that i am a judge, apart from watching a lot of poker, but i rate him

Stars reg i think, and travels the european circuit

Over on table 32, Nick Case raises from the cutoff to 20k and is looked up and down by the big blind in seat one, Zahari Petrov. Even behind a cap and a pair of shades*, you can tell he was looking with a piercing, grizzled contempt.

"Raise"

The table, until now largely disinterested, lean forward in unison. Here we go.

"60"

"All in"

"Call"

On their backs, then.

77 for our shover (340k) and AK for the big blind, who is at risk with 300k. I appreciate you don't want me reporting on flips, but I was there and you might as well listen.

A4J 6 9 is no good for Case and he is left with next to nothing. That horrible moment where you go to leave and are informed that you still have chips, only to see a feast of Heston Blumenthal-triple-cooked chips replaced by a kebab house morcel of greasy fries. Marv.

(Yes, I said shades. What of it?)

As you can see, the names/faces are getting more concentrated now, as the field is whittled down. 447k is the average stack, meaning we have an interesting spell after this break for those feeling the heat to get creative, the big stacks to bully the mid-stacks and anyone who has my mindset to set up their exit hand anecdote by second guessing the opposition and 3bet shoving with rubbish.

Ok. Make yourself a hero:

If you guys have the time and inclination, please keep an eye on Andreas Olympios. He is a really good guy and a very strong NL cash player but has never had that one big result in a tournament. I am really hoping this is his one time.

Looking at this table...

14    1    Carl Spicer
14    2    Toby Robinson
14    3    Chris Dowling
14    4    Adam Bromley
14    6    Alex Goulder
14    7    Mudasser Hussain
14    8    Alexander Spencer
14    9    Yucel Eminoglu

...must scare the bejeezuses out of anyone who likes keeping pots small. Any stray chip will be hoovered up ruthlessly. As in no ruth at all. Wholly lacking in ruth. Reminds me of my favourite Boycie quote:

I’ve left my Mercedes parked downstairs and you know what they’re like on this estate. They’d have the wheels off a Jumbo if it flew too low.
