50 years ago today England won the World Cup and we haven't let the world forget it since.

Let's hope it doesn't take another 50 years  Grin

What a wonderful memory that was.

I was on a caravan holiday in Walton-On-Naze - we went there so we could listen to Pirate Radio. Frinton-on-Sea was nicer, but too posh.

Caroline, sound of the Nation, Caroline, sound of the land.

Wonnnderful, Radiooooooo Londonnnnnnn

Caroline featured Kenny & Cash, (Kenny Everett & Dave Cash) which was, at the time, the best radio show ever, & 40 years ahead of it's time.

The caravan had no TV, but we watched the world Cup Final in the window of a Radio Rentals shop on the High Street.

After the victory, & for the next 12 months or so, the whole mood of the country changed - we were proud, upbeat, happy. And, of course, the Merseyside sound & Beatlemania were in full flow.

I had a posh car, too. I've had some lovely cars in my time - scores of them - but I doubt any gave me the pleasure & pride this beauty did.

Life was just great, & winning the World Cup was part of the reason.

Nice story Tony . I have been waiting for this day to make my first post in this thread  Smiley

A regret I have is not returning to the UK whilst we hosted the 2012 Olympics . Another great time for everyone to have fun by all accounts. A once in a lifetime experience to witness being a host nation for most

Frightening how that 15 years have flown by. Remembering those lost souls and their families.

The world really did change forever that day. 15 years? Somehow, it seems longer.

I remember just staring at the TV screens, mouth open, quite unable to comprehend what I was seeing. It just could not be possible that man could be so evil to man. Those Twin Towers could not be knocked down, surely? Every skyline photo of New York featured them.

And whilst the USA may well have deserved a slap in the chops for their selfish meddling in Middle East affairs, those killed were almost all regular civvies - clerks, typists, firemen, regular people.

It was all so dreadful & unfair.

2001.

Pokerstars launched its poker site. At the time the biggest sites were Paradise Poker, Ultimatebet and Party Poker. 2003 and a certain Mr Moneymaker changed all that .

Fyp

Memory may be bad, but I thought party was biggest right up to them pulling out of the US.

Now I have fixed your post I am not sure.  Anybody can confirm?

Edit.  Just found the wikpedia article on party poker and that says that party was biggest right up to 2006.

On this day in 1963, C. S. Lewis died. John F. Kennedy was killed an hour later. 7hrs after that, Aldous Huxley also drew his last breath.
