in 1986, Sir Clive Sinclair sold his computer business to Amstrad.

He had also invented the hand held electronic calculator.

The sale enabled him to devote his time to playing poker in London, & inventing useful things such as the Sinclair C5.....

....and this bicycle.

He appeared in 3 series of Late Night Poker, too, & frequented The Vic, where he played the big tourneys.

He lives in a flat overlooking Trafalger Square.

I own an A-bike Smiley

Think the concept is awesome and, whilst they're a bit jittery, they are eminently rideable for short distances.

This said, my rear tyre burst within not long of me owning it (I am on the cusp of the weight limit - OWING TO HEIGHT I MUST STRESS) and it lies unloved in my loft Sad

The 42nd Academy Awards were held on this day in 1970. Best Actor went to Marion Morrison John Wayne for his portrayal of Rooster Cogburn in True Grit.

It was largely considered a sentimental decision, honouring Wayne's career as much as this performance. As if anything could top Peter O'Toole in Goodbye Mr Chips!

It was Wayne's only Oscar.

Well thank you Mr D (& Callum).

It's not gone as well as I had hoped - only 876 views in a week, & just 9 people have posted on it so far, but it may be a slow burner, & have legs.

We shall see.

We gotta find ways to rev up blonde, that's the thing. We are marginal right now, & after a very good March - best month for a long time - we are not doing so well in April so far. Still, lots of fun things happening this month, so we might get there yet.

PS - You owe me a PM reply, about our "date". I'm not letting you off the hook, right?

Good thread Tikay, always good to look back on events, often surprising how quickly times goes on.
My local weekly  paper does bits from 25,50 and 100 years ago - always interesting.
