The Southall race riots took place. Southall was the first (iirc) real Asian community in Britain.













They were most remembered for the death of Blair Peach, & the subsequent police cover-up. They had killed him.

These two geeky looking chaps (Crick & Watson) laid claim (perhaps unfairly, but that's another story) to the discovery of DNA.

Might just be one of the most important discoveries in the last century, & it has helped change the world.

The way in which DNA continuously separates & then reproduces itself is nothing short of ingenious. How on earth did nature manage to design a trick like that? We would not exist without it.

Betty Boothroyd elected as Speaker of the House Of Commons, the first female in that role in over 700 years. She held the post for 8 years.

A remarkable lady. She was at one time a member of The Tiller Girls, who were a dance Troupe who performed on Sunday Night at the London Palladium. Top top show, that. The Tiller Girls just did "high kicks" - nothing else. We loved 'em.

In her sixties, she took up.....paragliding.

As politicians go, a rare exception.
