1989

36 Years ago today the impossibly cool Andrea Pirlo was born

Excuse me, but please don't say 1989 was 36 years ago.
If it is I just aged ten years.

1979

The price of a pint of milk rose to 15p, meaning it had trebled in less than 5 years.

In the 36 years since, it has only gone up by around 50%. (Varies).

All through my boyhood, a pint if milk, (the only quantity you could buy) was a shilling.

1982

The Atlantic Conveyor, packed with armaments, weapons, Harrier Jets & Chinook Helicopters vital for the war, headed for The Falklands, was bombed by the Argentinians, who perhaps thought it was HMS Hermes, an Aircraft Carrier.

On the same day, HMS Coventry was hit, too.

1994

A company called "Camelot" won the licence to run the UK's National Lottery, & they have retained the licence ever since. It's current licence sees it through until 2019, with an option to extend until 2024.

Surprisingly (to me, anyway), Camelot is owned by the Ontario Teachers Pension Plan.

For every £1 we spend on a lottery ticket.......

50p is returned in prizes.

28p goes to "Good Causes"

12p goes to the Government in duty.

5p goes to the Retailer.

5p goes to Camelot.

Taxed at supply. How come we do this and the U.S. Always tax the consumer (pretty sure they have to pay tax on lottery earnings)
