John Peel D.J'd in Chibuku Shake Shake a couple of tears before his death.

Chibuku is/was a proper little rave-cave of club in the backstreets of central liverpool, held in building that contained an old theatre. Usually it catered to weird techno, dubstep, hip-hop D.J's playing to a young crowd of loved-up dance-heads. so a very strange place for a 50+ radio one D.J to play. his daughter was at liverpool uni at the time and was a regular at the club and nagged him to play there.

Peel was the most ecclectic of D.J's and fitted in perfectly to the vibe of the club. Most of the crowd had printed out John Peel face masks on and he said afterwards he had felt incredibly nervous playing there, and that turning up in a room of a thousand scousers all off their heads on ecstasy wearing his face as masks did little to ease the nerves. he neededn't have worried. there was one dicey moment when he played a recording of the kop singing 'you'll never walk alone' as the evertonians didnt appreciate it, but it was a boss, boss night.

It's 410 years since Guy Fawkes tried to blow up parliament; John Chilcot's report into the plot is due any day now...

Was he the last man to enter Parliament with honest intentions ?

Is that actually Queen? Looks more like Jeremy Vine than Freddie Mercury at the front.

I missed this on Tuesday.

On 10 November 1985, Gary Kimovich Kasparov was crowned the thirteenth World Chess Champion.

At just 22, and having endured a monstrous, epic, 48 game battle less than a year earlier against Karpov, the great man truly arrived.
