EU trade commissioner says that its illegal to hold trade talks until brexit is complete - that's what the 2 years is all about.  So the UK will be facing tariffs on exports and the banks will be frozen out at the end of the two years until the trade agreement is concluded.  Obviously all the damage will be done by then.

Head of steam building for Andrea Leadsom - she's now into second favourite, ahead of Gove.

Good progress for someone who I, someone who's interested in this kind of thing more than most, had never heard of 6 weeks ago.

Think its more goves weakness, because may is shortening faster, leadsoms position is alot more steady. Shes at a big disadvantage currently as theres only two candidates being discussed to any real levels.

Leadsom and gove are short for chancellor, clearly expecting May to buy them off?

Surely this would be a total disaster? Cannot make deals with other countries until we are fully out and cannot negotiate a deal with the EU till we are out, caught in no man's land. And that article highlights that Canada's deal has been 7 years in the making and won't be complete for a year or two yet.

Been to three countries this week including Germany today. Thus far, I have received nothing other than the same warm welcome and just general  both amusement and shock at our Brexit.

I explain, we aren't  a racist nation, and are happy to take anyone with something to offer, but not just freeloaders claiming asylum from a hard days work, and to a man, everyone has agreed, regardless of nationality. More so today, the Germans! It seems there is far more sympathy for the crux of our argument then the haters would have you believe.

On a person to person level, things seem fine, but what happens when a bunch of people who have never done a days work in their lives*, get to decide if we can still do business together, who knows?

May doesnt like Gove, and as AndrewT says, who on earth is Andrea Leadsom to make such a big jump. (ok she has a background in finance)

Must be some value in finding the next chancellor. Chris Grayling  (who proposed her as leader)  maybe at 12/1?

Andrea Leadsom                                 2
Michael Gove                                 5/2
Philip Hammond                                 7
Sajid Javid                                           7
Theresa May                                        7
Chris Grayling                                 12
Matthew Hancock                                 16
Greg Hands                                         20
Jeremy Hunt                                 20
Nicky Morgan                                 20
Priti Patel                                         20

oh found this

After university, Hancock briefly worked for his family’s computer software company,[3] before moving to London to work as an economist at the Bank of England, specialising in the housing market.[4] In 2005 he became an economic adviser to the Shadow Chancellor of the Exchequer, George Osborne, later becoming Osborne's chief of staff.[1]

backing May as leader on newsnight

16/1 might be worth a couple of quid
