Charles Kennedy. In a political age not overburdened with gaiety and good sense, he brought us wit, charm, judgement, principle and decency

Ghastly news, but maybe a merciful release from his suffering, and an escape from the constant abuse and mockery he received on Twitter and Facebook.
RIP Mr Kennedy.

Was he I'll, or do you just mean emotional suffering because of the abuse?

He had issues with the booze. Think that was about it.
He was genuinley one of the most talented Lib Dems in the UK, and acted with more principle than most. RIP.

RIP Mr Kennedy.
Now he's died, people who mocked him are falling over themselves to say nice things about him on the very places they derided him just days ago.
As a society, haven't we got this all wrong?
Why wait until someone has died, when they can't hear it, to say good things about someone?

I haven't seen the Kennedy ones, but Twitter/Facebook posts when people have died always come across to me as fake and insincere. Just feels like completely the wrong medium to express condolences.

Quite brilliant.
Really well written and a great tribute from clearly a close friend of Charles both inside and outside of the political world.
As a side note does it mean Campbell has an 'alcohol problem'? From the way he wrote it would suggest so.

I think that is pretty well known about Alistair Campbell but he's been sober for a long time now.
