hmm must surely be a fall from grace club, who have bombed down the leagues [or some somall club who signed an ex international in the 90s when ex internationals had to hawk around the lower leagues until they were 40 to pay off mortgages]

maybe blackburn, was cole pre rio?

Blackburn and Cole would have been my guess as well having spent way to long thinking this over.  The other one I had was Andy Carroll but that wouldn't work if before Ferdy.

Ok first clue the transfer fee in question is less than £1m and the club are currently in the championship.

Burton are the only team in the Championship i think with a lower record signing fee (£500k last year for an SPL striker) than the club in question and that was last summer.

No idea but it isn't him.

He signed for this club in December 1989 for £800k.  Other clubs he played for during his career were QPR, West Ham, Newcastle, Derby and Ipswich.

that might be Malcolm Allen? but he is not Millwall or Barnsley's record signing

think the question,as framed, might be wrong

Goddard Milwall?

Not their record signing Malone is but great question anyway

Ignore that Malone is on loan, he might still be Milwalls record great stuff!

Goddard is correct per my source on twitter.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Millwall_F.C._records_and_statistics

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_Goddard

Not sure when Malone was signed but the above still have Goddard as the record signing.
