I did not know that, very sorry to hear. Always found him entertaining on the old WSOP broadcasts, in particular his eccentricity.

Paul Phillips.
Helmuth
Vicky Coren
Pleno
Liv Boree
Vicktor Blom
Neil Channing
Aces Trumper

This list proves I know nothing of modern poker players.

Can't see how it's a shock, given how many well known poker players there are to choose from.

I know who he is, but only because I watch lots of EPT live.

Why?

What does he bring that others in my list dont that make him replacing one of them worthwhile?

The show is aimed at NEW poker players. Its in primetime, so you have to look at your taregt audience. Most 18-25 year old males are not sat around watching TV. Your target age range is 30-50, both male and female. Watching Charlie Carrel play isnt going to entice them.

Seeing Bedi's backstory (for example), however, will, as he will appeal to them. "If he can do it, so can I."

Oh, and Tighty, what's your list? Wink

Because who cares about the old pros playing boring nitty foldig poker all
Looking the same. Charlie plays fkn crazy, talks a lot
At the tables, wears super bright hippy clothes and has won more money than anybody else in the Uk in the last 12 months. He'd be the very first name on my list.

Don't think I've ever heard of him.

I've already series linked the thread show tho, so I'm sure I'll work out which one he is in your episode.

Hellmuth
Esfandiari
Laak
Negreanu

But the people watching it dont know anything about poker. They dont know about 3 bet ranges and nitty folds. They just see a bunch of people their age, just like them, playing cards, having fun and winning. It makes them want to play. Watching Charlie Carrel not give a fuck and play any two makes it seem reckless. These people aren't the type to be reckless.

I'm assuming there was a reason Tighty emphasised the new audience of poker and prime time. That audience is middle aged housewives and Joe Bloggs who has a 9-5 and comes home, sits in front of the TV and eats dinner. Most of the people named in here aren't gonna attract that audience. They don't know who Hellmuth is and won't care when he throws a tantrum, they're just gonna think he's a cock. They'll see Isildur sit there, not saying much, and think that they wouldnt wanna play with him.

Gotta think about the stakes as well. Laak/Esfandiari et al aint flying all the way over here for a 1k SNG.

I could be wrong, who knows. But every time a thread like this goes up, everybody gives a poker player's dream table. The question is for Joe Bloggs, who doesnt even know what Texas Hold'Em is...what table would entice him to join us. A bunch of yanks/high stakes pros is not the answer.

If it's on TV, they'd be over here for a $10 SNG

If for a UK audience then...

Trickett - not even close for being  the number one pick - aspirational
Boatman - genuine legend. Been there. Done that. Kept the t-shirt.
Channing - paints an unrealistic, hopeful picture of what time at a table is.
Boeree - Liv, I'm so sorry to distil it down to this but "fit bird who can hold her own"
Coren - proves that poker isn't a single sex or single intellect game
Pleno - genuinely the best in the business. I could not be more impressed.
Ian Gascoigne - obviously. All bias aside he does not give two hoots and shows the less serious side of poker.
Rob Yong - has single handedly ensured the midterm longevity of UK poker. Plays better than anyone realises.
