Listening to the ever cheerful & upbeat Chris Evans this morning, I made my first acquaintance, of dubious nature, with "Little Mix".

Chatting in the studio, they sounded just like any 4 giggly 11 year old schoolgirls.

Arrived home, done some googling, seems they are quite the thing.

They appear to have "own brand" or promotions for M & M's, Toys, a range of children's clothing, hair dye, nail wraps (wtf are nail wraps?), make up, perfume & headphones. Oh, & a book. The film is rumoured to be on the way.

Next up, google images.

And bingo, initial thoughts confirmed.

They are a Spice Girls Tribute Band, in precisely the same way as Oasis tried to replicate The Beatles.

Talk about Get Weird.

This photo was labelled "Little Mix with Attitude". That'll be about as much attitude as a tortoise during hibernation.

I always chuckle quietly when you start threads like this about just discovering stuff like this years after they hit the big time.  I am not a massive follower of celeb nonsense but i do wonder what planet you live on where you haven't even heard of stuff like this for years!!!  No offense intended.

Done well for themselves, fair play to them.

Offence? I took it as a compliment. I'm a shepherd, not a sheep, know what I mean?

Thing is, I don't watch any so-called "Light Entertainment" (how come the Trades Description Act allows that phrase?), & only listen to grown up wireless, except every week or so when I have to head north in the car early in the morning & so listen to Sir Chris.

Rather more pleasingly, he also had Sir David Jason on, & that wonderfully growly Scottish bloke from "The Thick of It" who I like a great deal. Proper talent, them two.

Oh yes, I have great admiration for people with zero talent who somehow succeed in life.

In that photo they all look like they have digestive problems.

They were on James Corden last month, and the third one looked like she had no such problems.

I actually thought she may have eaten one of the others, when she first appeared.

That'll be the Little Mix version of Ginger Spice. I'm telling you, carbon copies.

You can bet good money that have a shrewd manager pulling their strings.

Presumably what first attracted you to poker?

Not sure winning a talent contest counts as having no talent. It's a bit counterintuitive at any rate.

They seem (for pop stars) like nice people with great voices who work hard. I don't begrudge them success. Not many British bands break America.

I don't begrudge them success one bit, & I hope they carry on doing well, as I'm not in Team Schadenfreude, I genuinely admire that they have, against all odds, succeeded.

I did prefer it when artistes required talent, rather than good Management, though.

You presumably never saw Doris Day? Proper talent, her. Course, once Cilla Black arrived, talent was no longer a prerequisite.

I did not. She was a good singer that had her songs written for her and her image controlled by management right? So exactly like Little Mix.

Ameila Lily was robbed imo

Edit: According to wiki she's doing proper singing now, performing in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat in the West End

Alun, please.  Good management can't impose sex appeal. Any man that could survey Miss Day at length without at least a little arousal was not human.

I think the "zero talent" comment is a bit unfair. It's not at all my cup of tea, being as I am, an old rocker, but they seem like pretty girls with decent singing voices, making well produced pop music for teenagers. Pretty sure the management will work the very hard too.

Plenty of people with FAR less vocal talent making what some would think of as more credible music.
