Inspired by the Thursday Night Football thread. When the Premier League was created, 3pm Saturday kickoffs were banned from being televised, the idea being that if they were televised it would affect attendances at lower league teams. This ban is still here to this day. Because of this, the "big" clubs constantly have their games shunted around to avoid the traditional timeslot, which is bad for the people who actually go to the matches.

Isn't it about time that this got shelved? The games are televised live abroad, it seems crazy that in modern times this ban still lives on.

Yes. any of us can within a couple of minutes find a stream of any 3pm saturday kick off and watch in perfect quality irish tv, nbc, norwegian tv broadcasting these matches live

the 3pm ban is out-dated

there are some funny rights restrictions too. match of the day and football focus are not allowed on i-player for example

MOTD is available on iplayer but they're only allowed to put it up at midnight on Sunday

Premiership football version of NFL RedZone could not come quickly enough.

But then we'd lose out on Paul Merson inaccurately describing goals whilst mispronouncing foreign players' names.

Is it possible that the EPL are happy to discourage away fans?
A lot of clubs can sell out without them, and they bring a high cost with them (Policing etc...).

Au contraire, Blackadder. We get him to present it and call every play.

There comes a point soon where it becomes like the NFL and the crowd are there to be like the studio audience on a sitcom- what really matters is the TV viewer.

Anyone can find a pub that shows them if they care enough anyway.

Personally like the ban.

Otherwise fans of smaller clubs would stay away in droves and the rich get richer. Dont see it being overturned in near future thankfully.

Personally, I don't think anyone is saying "I'm was going to watch Oxford United, but now WBA are on the telly at 3pm I'm not going to bother". If you were swayed by matches on TV, you'd surely just watch West Brom at 12 and by the time that finished it would be hard to get out to a live match.

the Arsenal Leicester game on feb 13 was a 3pm kick off

bear in mind sky announced their feb slate of premier league fixtures in december

today it has been moved to sunday 14th at midday

ludicrously late. coaches and train tickets had been booked etc

this sort of thing really does take the piss out of live away supporters.......

You would think the clubs would refund any ticket holders pre booked non refundable train tickets etc given the money they will get from the TV rights.
