On Sky news they have just said that Newcastle have applied to the Premier League asking them if Roeder can be considered to become the next Newcastle manager.

He's still backable @ 4/5 on Betfair for those that need to get out of it

i have it on good authority that Martin ONeil will be appointed Newcastle Manager after the last game of the season.
All the backroom staff will be leaving.

How good a source?!
I think all the hype would be harsh on roeder if it turned out to be MON. If its such a done deal that people outside the club know then surely they'd have told Roeder before putting him on tele saying he wants it?
I'm not a big MON fan, I'm completely indifferent between him and Roeder.....

TBH your not in a position to be fussy, NU are the biggest underachievers in Europe bar none.
MON would be the best thing to happen to NU for decades irrespective of whether hes a Mackem or you just don't fancy his style of play.
Heaven forbid that you might actually have a chance of winning something!

All I know is this, I would prefer MON to manage my team than Roeder.
And I would wish Roeder on any of Spurs rivals.

Pretty good source - city types from Northern Rock who were knocking back the bolly last night with a good mate of mine who works at ING.

As the biggest under acheivers your obviously talking about recent times... in which case surely real madrid should be considered bigger under achievers based on money spent!
Chance of winning something is excactly what everyone of our previous five managers has given us! FA cup finals, league runners up UEFA semi's... Keegan was the 'right man' for the job, Dagleish was a proven winner, Robson had everything you could want, Souness was rashly brought in to add some dissapline....
Every manager that has come under pressure at Newcastle has been as a result of the Style of play. Dagleish was appalling to watch, Guillet was a farce and souness give the players no direction at all as reflected by Roeders ability to make them play so well so quickly. There is no doubt that once they lose the fans they're on borrowed time. So I disagree, the style of play is hugely important.... more so than giving us another 'chance' at winning something.

Its not going to be Roeder then! PL reject request...
So thats money on either MON or that Tommy Craig bet.....
Apparently there is a clause whereby NUFC can get the go ahead if they get the backing from the other league clubs.... so no news then!

No I'm not talking about recently I'm talking about the last 30 odd years, the comparision with Real Madrid is quite funny though.
Its nice to win with style but you've got to find a way to way to win first & then try to do it with style IMHO.
You talk about runners up, semis etc. I'm sure Shearer is thrilled with that. It sounds as though you have got into a losers mentality, thats the first thing MON would get rid of.

I think we've only really been back on the European map for the last 8 or 9 year so still think your statement is way over the top. We went through a hell of a long period of before the Hall & Keegan era; the money spent and the awesome stadium we now have is all people judge the club by when measuring success.
As Shearer has said many times, he would loved to have won something for/with Newcastle, but he doesn't regret not going to Man U because he has fufiled his childhood dream in playing for 'his' club. Unless you have that attachement to a team, and to the game, which I don't think is that common in any other club/region, then that might be difficult to believe, but its true.
It isn't a loser mentallity, it is a far more realistic view. I don't class success as winning the league cup, I'd much rather be 'a top 4 team' and get back into those european nights, yet if you win some silverware then that makes you great? I measure it purely from a selfish point of view, I pay my money and want to be entertained...the only reason people want silverware is to boast about their teams 'success' to other fans - for me, if the people playing for my team give 100% and provide good football i'm happy. Lets face it, and this is not a loser mentallity- its fact, no team other than Chealsea or Man U are going to win the league in the next 5 years, and add Liverpool and Arsenal to that, baring strange draws, they'll probably have the next 5 FA cups.
Don't get me wrong, I want and will NUFC on to win all of the above things..... I just don't see there being a halo around MON's head that will make him better placed than KK or Bobby Robson to win something.
