This subject really gets my goat.

Being thrown into a back room out of sight from the main casino with player/dealers
whom one has to pay £3(I'm referring to Nottm. Gala here) just isn't good enough.

Okay half of the dealers are proficient, having been trained over a period of time
because of dealers not being provided by the house, but even the proficient ones
don't always shuffle correctly or cut as they should and it would be considered
"bad form" to pick them up on this as they are only helping out after all.

But the point is that we poker players deserve to be protected from the cheats and mechanics
who will flourish in the conditions afforded by such as Nottingham Gala and other casinos who do not
provide house dealers..

Not only do they fail to provide house dealers, but they also are prepared to cast a "blind eye"
to many things that the Gaming Board strictly forbid such as paying £2/£3 for a player dealer in competitions,
and allowing "private cash games" in which the punter/dealers (some of whom are known cheats) are
openly tipped by the players in these games.

Now if these casinos want the poker player's custom, which they obviously do,

PLEASE PROVIDE HOUSE DEALERS

I agree with you Ralph, but while you, your goat, and everyone else put up with it, things won't change

What about a procedure? Player to the left of the dealer shuffles, player to the right of the dealer cuts, and the "mechanics grip" is banned.

why not drag your goat up the m42 to the broadway?? house dealers provided for all games hehehehehe

seriously though if your going to be taken seriously as a poker venue i feel you need to provide dealers for competitions. Although the way some dealers are treated i must say i've been tempted to withdraw them from competitions sometimes. £5 self dealt competitions are all well and good for a social game , quite like the one on a sunday afternoon in blackpool (still gets 100 runners though), but for competitions over £10 entrance its a bit unacceptable IMO especially when playing a registration fee too to boot

just my Two Clubs

the procedure of players alternating the deal is more than likely in place at most venues that offer self dealt competition, however most players refuse to deal or pretyend not to know how, i even met one recently who couldnt shuffle hehehehehehe so its far easier to allow each table to nominate a dealer and continue

I 100% agree.  I would play many more tournaments if there were dealers.  I simply cannot deal and do not trust others (non casino staff) to do so.

The fact there is a reg' fee for self deal games is an outrage IMO.

I complain with my feet nowadays, rarely playing in venues that don't provide dealers.

I remember playing in a £300+£30 freezeout in a Gala casino last year.
£30 in juice for........................a pissy buffet?Huh???

when I deal at the Gala and I pass the cards to the button to be cut, most do it so clumsily you couldn't imagine them shuffling and dealing. Karabiner is right, half the dealers there (myself included I hope) shuffle and deal very well and run a good table. unfortunately the other half are a mixture of lads who are after the cheap game that dealing gives you without actually having the skills, or the crooked old dealers who had the job to themselves in years past (though there arent many of these left).

the tables are far too long for seats 2/3/8/9 to deal so someone needs to be on the dealers stool. if it's not a house dealer then I think some better control of who does.

I wouldnt do it if it weren't for the £2/£3 but who would?

ah the joys of small casino poker.  At my local Stanleys, there are no dealers and everyone has a go, the other players don't care if you make mistakes, just start again - it was very friendly.  They did the person to the right shuffles, person to the left cuts etc.

No reg fee either.

you say small casino poker but we have 6 comps a week getting between 70 and 120 runners. you think that'd get us house dealers.
