Everyone would be over the moon if we played as badly as Portugal, drew every game 0-0 and got to a major final surely?  Big Sam is the man for that for sure.  I like the appointment.  The other way hasn't worked for 20 years after all.  What we got to lose?  Can't be any worse than the joke summer we just had.

Arbboy in nailing it shocker.

Absolutely.

Devastated Wenger didn't get it... But very optimistic Sam can get more out of a potentiality decent bunch of kids.

Don't you think AW will be the next option if big sam fails in 2 years?  AW probably wants a couple more years at Arsenal (even if you, and thousands of other Arsenal fans, don't want him) and then move onto a huge part time final role as a final pension pot.

I think so.

Look he is a great coach. End of. He doesn't have to spend money as England Manager or worry about balancing the books.
On that basis, he is Taylor made.

It's the players who need to improve.

We have zero truly world class players who would walk into any top international team.

Pretty sure

Our team > Russia
Our team > Wales
Our team > Slovakia
Our team > Iceland

Etc etc, definitely down to more than not having world class players.

England players don't need to ne hungary for it when you have kids running about driving bentleys and earning more in a week than the average Joe Public gets per year.

Let's remember it is the worst job in football, & Sam has taken it for one reason only - it's a pension, & a handsome pension.

What football manager worth his salt would rather manage England than a decent Premier League side?

I very much doubt on £2.5m a year basic Sam is better off taking this job financially then staying at Sunderland.  If he is it will be very marginal.  Always find it amazing how the foreign guys like Sven and Fab (who did only come for the money) were getting 2 or 3 times what an English guy would get for the same job.

McClaren, Hodgson and Sam on a fraction of what those two foreign chaps got paid.

Such a lazy argument. Pretty much all the Welsh lads came through the same academies and would have been paid no less at the same age. Didn't seem to stop them. Can't imagine the teens in Spain or Italy aren't getting paid well either.

Allardyce on record years ago that he wanted the England job and nothing to do with the £££.

Agree with that. No correlation  between wages  and England's failings as far as  I'm concerned.

Pretty sure Bale and Ramsey earn half decent money

He seems the best out of a bad bunch. Regardless of winning trophies, he seems to do the job he's been asked to do. Plus, he's the manager who'll give the players a rocket up their ass.
