Says a lot about the man planning his own farewell totally narcissistic always has to be about him well over board should have been done after or before the match, putting all that side he's been a damn good centre back.

cant stand JT but it was meaningless match not effecting either team or teams around them
JT would of likely not of started the game seems a fitting way of the passing of the guard one captain to the next
would of been better if he was given 60 minutes but he knew that wasn't going to happen
guard of honour was OTT

Obviously Terry is an odious, self-centred prick but blame must lie with the club for indulging it, especially considering that there was a huge end of season party happening on the pitch right after the end of the game. If he wanted the club and fans to kiss the hem of his cloak then that least that would have been the place for it to happen.

Is there not an argument that this has ramifications with regards to betting integrity? I put a bet on a terry to be FGS and if there was no goal before he got subbed off I'd be fuming. Luckily I didn't get involved with a next goalscorer punt too.

Don't get all the bile at all. He has been there 15 years, if he and his employer agree a way for him to leave then I don't get why anyone else should complain. If the league was at stake and Sunderland didn't agree then it is different.
Then again, I didn't get upset with the Champion's league shirt celebration either. He was the club captain and had played all or most of the other matches to get them there. It isn't like it was a one match comp. Presumably everybody else at the club celebrated too?
Sure he has been a complete cock at times, but I don't get why people become so irrational with him.

I was disgusted with an agreed late Shearer penalty in his testimonial, the Terry nonsense is way past that.
A player who has been a great but his ego has always been way too big. It's a team game, accept the attention during the team lap of honour and at your testimonial. When the team are playing it's about the team.

Probably wouldn't be so much of a problem if it wasn't John Terry.

What's breath-taking here is the complicity of both clubs. This couldn't have happened without pre-match agreement. Just what did they think they were doing, and what did they think would happen after millions of people had a chance to think about it.
Not to mention the small punts on Paddy Power...
The implicit arrogance of it is just incredible.

You can't take your shirt off to celebrate a goal, why should you be able to stop a match half way through the first half, form a guard of honour and let someone walk through it to a standing ovation?
Doesn't help that it's Terry obviously.

Did all the Chelsea players in the guard of honour (which I'm assuming was the other 10 on the pitch) get booked for time wasting?
