Chumbawamba - The Day The Nazi Died (best version to use is the live version from the 'Showbusiness' album).  A song from the 90s aimed towards the intolerance of far right groups.  Still as relevant (if not more so) now.

The Wedding Present - Don't Laugh.  This is a 'proper' love song.  Not some formulaic crap written by numbers, but a song about dealing with a break-up (and there's no-one better at break-up music than the Weddoes).  Recommended as it's inevitable fact of life that a Wedding Present break-up song will become relevant to everyone!

no sign of that chumba song. you have a third choice

Spotify epic fail!

Carter USM - Shopper's Paradise.  Brilliant tune, even better lyrics with some very clever wordplay.  Recommended as discovering Carter's music will be a life-improving experience in general!

Levellers - Beautiful Day

Great live song and brilliant in a car. Should make everybody who hears it happy and if it's sunny outside on the drive you'll definitely repeat this one.

Linkin Park - In the End

Had this on in my car since forever.

I can see it now. Tighty sees that I've replied in this thread and instantly dies inside a little, fully expecting some snarling heavy metal of the Metallica/Slayer type.

Sorry, not today. However, you are getting Avenged Sevenfold and Motorhead, just not what you expect.

Avenged Sevenfold - Fiction
and
Motorhead - Heroes (I wanted to cheat and get Bowie in there somewhere!)

Gil Scott Heron.  Pieces of a man.  Just fantastic lyrics, bit bleak though.  Home is where the hatred is might be better.  Just as bleak, but was sampled (well pretty much stolen) by kanye west.

Jill Scott. Golden.  And after that one, you want something uplifting.

Amore - Ryuichi Sakamoto - amazing piano soloist, just a very peaceful album in general and well worth a listen

Sugarhill Gang - Rapper's Delight (1979)

Frankie Knuckles - Your Love (1987)

Two dance music classics.

Very difficult to narrow it down to two tracks.  Could easily have chosen 10 tracks

Johnny B. Goode  - Chuck Berry.  Best guitar riff of all time IMO

James Ingram & Michael McDonald - Yah Mo Be There.     Great voice and takes me back to my teenage years.
