It will be the last place you look so just look there.

Years ago I left my passport in a scanner and spent a whole panicked day trying to find it after needing it to check in for a flight. Felt like a right muppet but also very relieved when I realised it wasn't lost forever.

Losing a woolly hat can be devastating - I have had mine for 30 years + - hope you find it soon - glasses can be replaced but a woolly hat is forever.

TBH I'm not really worried about the hat, I cam buy another for a quid on the market, the thing that bothers me is I don't know what happened to it.

In that sense it's just as big a mystery as the meaning of life. I don't know the answer to that question either and I will probably never find out.

I've tried to work through it logically, There is nowhere here that it could be that I haven't looked, except in the dustbin and surely there is no way I could have put my hat and glasses in the dustbin?

Please don't make me look in the dustbins. I take my own bins to the tip and and so that I don't have to go too often I have four large wheelie bins which I fill to capacity with every kind of horrible filth you can imagine, and what's more when they're full I put my wellies on and jump on the contents to compress it so that I can get even more disgusting stuff in.

Please don't make me look in the dustbins.

I wouldn't be wearing them, but I have then with me all the time, usually on my head or, if my head is occupied, hooked on the front of my jersey/t shirt.

No. I don't wear a jumper when I'm out walking. I wear a t shirt and a zip-up fleece.. When I start out on winter mornings I'm usually a bit chilly but I walk very briskly which makes me warm, so then I can just unzip the fleece without taking anything off.

Just checked the bins.

It was a doddle when I realised I could just transfer the rubbish from one to the other using a posting shovel.
