Now the funny part of the hand is that i have been yapping away in the chat box... saying i wanted a call, or pass when i move in etc! Just messing about really.

Then i get aces in the small blind... limp and tell the big blind i have aces, he moves me allin and everyone cannot stop laughing!

So the internet does have speech play!

Oh dear.

It's the oldest internet tell there is. If someone says what hand they have in order to influence the decision of another player - they are almost always telling the truth.

LOL Ian

I have been using more and more speech play online. And with good effect.

A word of warning though - some people will try and get u banned.

Playing the $99 rebuy last night on BS, I am at the same table with Tikay and we are having the usual banter. You know, I will raise and get re raised, sit and wait until I fold (obviously I have raised with Junk, but type something like "AJ no good then?"

Well, I raised with J Q suited, and got re raised the minimum - obviously I am calling anyway to a min re raise. Well a short stack goes all in BEHIND the re raiser (approx 100 less than the raise)

Now I know I am calling, but type "I dont like my AQ now" and I call.

Flop came J J 4

I check, and the re raiser goes all in.

BINGO!! I take down a nice tidy pot and the re raiser goes out - obviously he had Aces, but wasnt very happy.

Isn't there a rule in live poker that if you actually mention a card you hold your hand is dead?
Just curious, i wonder if you do it online and someone complains will you get banned/have any winnings taken?

I have often seen people online say "I have aces" or "I'm going all in" or worse, when someone is all in, ask the player to the left "Are you going to call?"

IMHO this is cheating pure and simple

It wouldn't be allowed in a live game, and if someone copies your chat and reports it, you will get a ban

EDIT, That was a bit abrupt, no offence intended

thats fine red dog

i was'nt particularly asking players if they would pass... just messing on! as we had been talking whether i wanted a call every time i moved allin!

So i started typing no call please in the chat as a joke when i moved allin... i don't think that is too bad.

Latr on in the $250 i saw it again, a guy had been reraised on a 9 high flop. He then said "do you beat KK?" and moved allin! the other guy eventually passes and a know show... i did'nt believe him and then he did it again this time moving in on the turn after large bets have been called and a flush had come, 88 called and he did have KK...

Speech play is definately happening more, is it wrong? asking people to pass etc is but the rest could be got away with at certain comps in the uk...

I always warn people who raise my blinds from late position to not do it again or I'll be all in.  Of course this incites some players (like me) to keep doing it but If you pick up a hand on the blinds next time it sends out a signal.  Some people will show their hand after you have waited ages and given them the warning, just to show they weren't actually stealing Cheesy

I'm a huge fan of speach play, and I'm sure that the TDA ruled state that as long as you do not reveal what your hole cards are you are not violating any rules.

I now that I use speach play to my advantage in cashgames all the time and it sends people on crazy tilt, Its good to watch and its good for the bankroll.

In my opinion speach play is not cheating, lots of people do it, lots dont, its just another facet to the game that some people will have a problem with.

However, I do love in a tourney when  player warns you about raising their BB or limping in to it, I usually let them go all in a few times then wait for the good and Whack!!!, out of the tourney they go for defending a very small portion of their stack.

he he.

Something like "oops I've got the nuts" when someone bets into you - followed by a reraise all in.  Guaranteed a call.

Unfortunately being a stubborn git I fall for the exact same trick when it's done to me.....   Cheesy
