Hacking it round the back nine

That was better than I did yesterday Kev, but one positive thing was we played the course the proper way round 1-18 and without mats.

It was a bit of a rude awakening really as those mats are rather forgiving if you catch the ball a little heavy especially with fairway woods/metals. However it was a bit of a slog from the white tees after Wednesday's rain and all I could muster was paltry 27 stabbos after a gross(pun intended) 94. The greens are not exactly confidence-inspiring either after being verticut(whatever that means) but I certainly struggled on and around them. On the plus side I got another full 18 holes in the bank - that's two this week and fitness is improving. A bit more of that lovely warm spring weather would be welcome.

Our greens are pretty good. When I joined last Summer they said they never have temp greens and fair play they haven't. Still teeing off matts but I suspect not for long. All ropes round the greens removed so almost back to normal.

Here's a question for you more experienced members.

I got my handicap playing at my course which I joined last July. At the moment it's 21.5 but the slope rating reduces my handicap to 18 on the hole 19 app. So my question is why am I penalised shots when I achieved the handicap on this course?

The 21.5 is your handicap index on the WHS.

That is then multiplied or somesuch by the slope-rating which is different on every course and on yours it equates to 18.

21.5 on my course off the white tees comes out at 25. So it basically depends on the slope-rating/difficulty of the course.

Yes Ralph my handicap is on WHS. I get that the hole19  app automatically calculates the slope against my handicap. But as I acquired my handicap at the course  it seems like I'm being penalised as I didn't actually achieve a handicap of 18 when providing my 3 cards.

Over Winter the greenstaff have installed new bunkers, increased the height of some existing bunkers, added a pond, put in a few new tees and are going to narrow some fairways. All of this is being done to adjust the slope rating.

A big determining factor is the length of the course Kev.

Another factor in your whs is that if it's based on 3 scores they knock 2 off it. You have to submit at least 7 scores for it to be based entirely on your submissions.
