fairly simple, there can be only X amount of correct answers (72, 9 etc.) out of all the rest, so the symbols for those "correct" numbers are always the same as the answer you are given, the symbol changes every go you have.

You pick a two digit number. Let's call the two digits x and y (so if you pick 46, x=4 and y=6)

It asks you to work out the original number minus the sum of the two digits.

In terms of x and y, your original number can be expressed as 10x+y (so, for 46 again, it's ten lots of 4 plus 1 lot of 6).

Therefore, your original number minus the sum of the two digits is:

10x+y-(x+y)

which is

10x-x-y-y = 9x

So, the final number will always be 9 times the first digit. The only graphics which matter are therefore the multiples of nine - these are all the same (the specific graphic changes everytime so you're less likely to catch on). All the other graphics can be anything.
