Sounds like he held 88, but i would find this impossible to get away from.
Or like afew others posted a rag a and hit his fh.
Im hoping you won it Brian but it seems you owe a £1 to th ebad beat funds
Good luck if your still in!
Jason
this is not a bad beat story, this is a good poker hand, the background of the way Hasan had played the first few house was very important in my thinking while I played the hand

The very last hand of the night goes to Dewi James, who finds ACES and talks Raymond O’Mahoney into calling his all-in preflop bet of 15k. “If I had AQ, I’d call!” says Dewi. Raymond calls holding pocket 66’s.

He shows
, and I knew when he pushed he had me, I called and just could not fold. I know I will play this hand different in the future, I just decided it was time to see what he had. DC asked why I just called on the turn and the answer is I was trapping, but I got trapped myself.
I guess I just need a trip to Europe to play against some "weaker" players to get my next big win
Good luck everyone,

I think the only mistake you made in this hand was raising the river.
DC suggest raising the turn, why? It's 50-100 we have ample chips, winning 2k more doesnt really change out position, if i have a set i want to win as much as possible out of it, i would aslo flat call. Although i probably would have bet the flop!

I'd flat call on the end yes but I'd have to agree with Dave that I'd raise the turn.
It would probably mean me doing my chips but I'd just not put him on aces after a flop that was checked around. There are also drawing hands he could be playing and two pair could easily pay you off here. Raise the turn IMO.

Even if you bet your set on the flop, you're probably going to get called or raised by the aces- even if it's just a feeler raise from him to find out if you have the set. Is there really anyway it could have been played where he's laying those rockets down on the flop? I suspect not.
After the turn it becomes academic. Beyond passively check calling all the way, there's no way you can avoid putting a substantial amount of chips in here. I think a smooth call on the river's still your best move given how the hand panned out- a bet on the turn, for all the info it may have given you, may only have served to end your chips in the pot sooner- are you gonna put him on AA or, the more likely AK, AQ? A smooth call on the river though, at least leaves you with a workable 11k.
Wow, me giving any semblance of advice to a WSOP bracelet winner drunk. That's what this forum's all about.

yeap and i appreciate all the input, the real point of this hand in my eyes is that I got caught up in the action, the image of the player involved and the fact that I wanted my set to be good. It was a tough hand and I dont know if I could have played it much different, I am always working on my game and trying to learn

raising here is just a bit greedy Brian!!
You know he only calls/raises you if your beat. There are a select few hands he may pay you off with, but not enough to be value raising the river with. He pays you off with 55/AK (maybe) AQ (less likely)
Like somebody said its possible he has a 6 and was betting out the straight draw on the turn although id like to think he'd do this on the flop...
So if you think that he could be bluffing there is no need to raise, your not extracting any more value out of the pot, you have a made hand so there is no need to raise, If you raise you are opening yourself up to a re raise which will spark a lot of trouble as you know and as you found out.
The range of hands that you beat and the range of hands that have you beat do not make it valuable to raise here in my opinion. Good luck in Monte mate
