Laying down QQ in MTT

 This was only the 5th hand in a 20 pound MTT i entered.
Basically Id like to know your opion on whether this was the correct move to fold.
At the time I didn't have any info on the player and his minimum raise pre-flop looked fishy to me so when he put the all - in re-raise over the top of my raise i felt he must have had AA or KK even if he had AK i didnt want to risk my full tourney on a coin flip.

Any advice would be good.

If £20 is small beer to you I lump it in and try for the double up

It feels a lot more like AK than a KK/AA bet

IMHO at the £20 level players can make this move with a far wider range of hands than the two you fear, AA/KK and the one you would rather not see but would accept AK.

You can't be criticised for the laydown, but I think I gamble here without allowing for circumstances like bankroll, how often you can play, importance of tournament to you etc.

Personally, I'd call. I don't go looking for a coinflip situation early on, but if I have to, I'd rather gamble with some of the possibly lesser skilled players and grab their chips now rather than try and take it off the better players later. If you're confident in your own game and your ability to outplay other players later on, then there is certainly nothing wrong with folding here.

I've seen lots of players doing this all-in move on level 1 blinds. Like betting 1,500 for, what, 60 to 100 chips...? It's a lame move for me. and worth a call with any decent pair. If I have a mid pair upwards, I nearly always call in a £$€20 or below tourney at that stage unless I've seen more of the opponent to stop me. If I'm out I'm out. If not, double up.

yeah the more i thought about it aferwards i thought i should call but i felt he was strong.
didnt stop my AK getting beat with A8 a few hands later though.

I agree with Homer and Gilbern here, I would've called, but then again that is one the hands that i would find great difficulty in laying down pre-flop anyway
