So the final is off and running - here's an overview where they're breaking the ice with some party games: "Simon Says put your hands on your head!"

PAYOUT STRUCTURES

I agree with Acion Jack, he is a "plodder".

Serioulsy, the venue holding the event let us all know what the payout structure was and we coughed up our £1,500. Its their tournamant, we're the customers - not the organisors, so we can vote with our feet. The staff at Walsall are great and it would be a shame if there efforts were overshadowed by the payouts etc, we have a choice, play or don't play. However, I would lay big odds that a deal will be done so we won't get a "true winner."

I know when my club opens we are going to come in for some right flack from a section of the poker community, as we will definatley be operation standardised rules and a FLATTER payout structure for 3 reasons: to avoid deals being done so we get a outright winner, less hassle at the final table, and to spread the money around so less money goes out of the game. £1500 is a lot of money for some people and surely the bottom prize should be more than money back?

I know we'll get our critics and I'm sure we'll get a few players refusing to play, but everyone has a choice to vote with their feet. Personally, I'd rather that people did this than play and grumble.

Just my thoughts,

Good luck to Womble and Zach, both top blokes (hopefuuly you guys have not swopped % with Ariston)

Cheer Rob

I'm not knocking the staff at Walsall Rob, they do a fantastic job and Walsall is probably my favorite card room, I'm just rising an issue, the fact that I'm free to do this is all the more credit to them

Yes, it's their tournament, but it's our money, we should have a say

As for playing elsewhere with a flatter structure, where do you suggest? (And that is not an excuse for you to plug your club)

Just out of interest, if they chopped it equally now between the 9 of them, they'd take home 19.1k each. (if my calculations are correct)

That's only a few hundred less than third prize.

1st- Very well done to snoops and Jen.. you guys are the best... (i can't wait for Vienna)

2nd- Payouts, i think a whole thread of suggestions might be in order i agree with both sides on some points and it's very contentious.

3rd- Please wish from me the best of luck to Nick from me- (tell him it's from sconehead!!) he'll know who it is then... thanks guys!x

Some of the spectators are self-confessedly more photogenic than the Finalists... "Can I download this picture when I get home?" says its genial subject, the Mad Turk

You have to feel for bubble boy Micky Herron.

His final pot would have made him chip leader.

That river has probably cost him thousands, yet, he goes home having made a loss, even with a cash finish.

Crikey snoops, that's poker.

if he wanted a couple more grand he could have passed his kings. He played to win and should be proud of what he did.

Ned Flanders raises preflop.

Womble moves all-in.

Ned folds.

The usual cagey start.

I don't mind the 'Money back' for the 9 who miss the final table, I just think the final table prizes could be a little flatter

It's pretty cagey play at the moment, with no one at the desperation stage (yet) and the blinds still at 5k 10k.  That's not peanuts though...
