One thing that has always amazed me about poker is the small number of female participants. Off the top of my head I can only think of seven well known female players - Jenifer Harman, Annie Duke, Liz Liu(sp?), Jennifer ' Jennicide' Leigh, Issabele Mercier, Kathy Liebert and Evelyn Ng.
I know there must be alot more, and I appologize for any names I have missed. I tried to find statistcs for the amount of male and female online poker players. I could only come up with the link below. It is not really all that decent a site, but it does reveal that an estimated 20% of online poker players are female.
http://www.womengamers.com/articles/poker.phpIt is obvious that some female players are just as talented as their male counterparts. However I am abit confused, if a fifth of all online players are female, why don't we see more of them in televised tournaments. Is it possible poker still suffers from a 'male dominated' image. If so, could this account for the low numbers of females playing in televised tournaments in comparison to the high number of males.
I have played with alot of females. In my opinon they are no different to men. Men of course are biologically wired differently to females, as a result we are naturally more aggressive and competative. However, we don't need to hunt for survival like in times gone by and this natural inclination to be the agressor may have dimminished slightly. This may be the reason poker is not a game effected by the two genders. Like other mind sports, poker is a game influenced strongly by intelligence.....Damm, there go's my dreams..lol. So men and women should be on an equal level
Below is a link showing a list of all the top female players. Just to keep the girlies happy
http://www.onlinepokergirl.com/female-poker-stars.htmlI am sure this subject has been discussed to death on Blonde already. If it has , sorry
In the event of any hate mail directed from the female population of Blonde towards Sark79. I love females and I am on your side on this one
