Gala specific rules

last week I was driven to write a letter of complaint to Gala Nottingham. I covered a lot of topics including Smoking, Collusion/soft play, deals, playing to a conclusion. etc. A manager took the time to speak to me today about some of the issues raised and also he assured me the general Manager would be writing to me this week. I appreciate their time and when I have his letter I'll stick them both up.

I need the forums help with a couple of issues that came up.
1, tables are balanced by moving the shortest stack.
2, at the end of a tournament in heads up play the dealer button posts the big blind

1 I believe is unfair and 2 I believe is plain wrong. However I was told both were rules across the gala chain and couldnt be changed without going through head office compliance.

What I need to know is,
Do you play at a Gala casino elsewhere in the country and could you confirm that your Gala rules this way. with the HU blinds I really need you to know for a fact how it's done.

I could also do with knowing how other casinos chains deal with the above.

I challenge the 'lowest chips' rule EVERY week to the point of frustration.  Apparently its a GALA rule, not a Gala Notts rule. - as if GALA would even know or care if one card room started doing things differently, or should i say..... properly.

Me: "why is that the rule"
Cardroommanager: "because it is"
Me: "why don't you change it to big blind moves?"
CRM: "What"?
Me: Big Blind Moves... full common sense explaination about how in EVERY card room in the world moves the Big blind and it is actually fair because because because etc etc. (i am being genuinely helpful at this point)
CRM: "we can't, thats the rule"
Me: "well, change it"
CRM "we can't, thats the rule"
Me: "GRRRRRRR"

I have resulted to sarcasm now - when there is a move about to take place i suggest they take "the biggest nose" or "greyest hair", "reverse alphabetical" or something as equally random as lowest chips.

lets hope it gets changed - it really makes nooooooo sense why lowest chips would get moved.

I myself have thought of writing to the Gala Head Honcho with a few suggestions of my own.  The issues you raised are the same at the Gala in Leeds.

The moving players rule is the same here.  I think the thinking behind moving the small stack in re-buy competitions is if people have spent a lot of money re-buying at a particular table they are not too happy if the chip leader disappears with most of the chips.

The heads up situation only rarely occurs due to the fact that they seem unable to start at a time where the competition ever gets that far. I have only ever played heads up once at Gala and that was only for a few hands before a deal was cut. The button was the wrong way round and when I pointed this out to the dealer he insisted that this was correct!  I think this is due to ignorance, or maybe down to some strange poker rules that existed locally in the UK before the current poker boom. Up until about 12 months ago they played with the blinds ON the button and to the left of the button.

The thing that really pisses me off most about the Gala in Leeds is the way they insist on paying the money on their ridiculous version of a "chip count".  Last week once again I was involved in a three hand crap shoot to decide the top three money places after seven and half hours of play.  Once again I think this is due to pure ignorance of the game on the part of the casino.

My list of suggestions for Mr Gala would be:

House dealers (there seems to be a consensus that people would be prepared to pay something for this).

Start the comp at a time when you can finish it (you would think this would go without saying).

If you have to do a chip count, do a proper proportional split.

A variety of competitions instead of the continual re-buy bingo.

Heads up have the button the right way round (obviously!).

The real business of Gala is fleecing people at table games. Until there is some real competition allowing folks to vote with their feet I doubt if they are going to take much notice of what their customers actually want.

Have you also asked the management about whether a  "private cash game"
in which every pot over £1k is raked £20 by a private individual aka "the cockroach"
is allowed in every Gala casino or just in Nottingham.

Or do they have a designated "cockroach" in every Gala cardroom.

Is it also "de rigeur" to have well known cheats and mechanics dealing in these "private games",
who have to weigh in a %age of their tips/thieving to the designated "cockroach" ?

It might also be worth asking the casino general manager whether it is "de rigeur"
for junior managers to go out to dinner with the designated "cockroach" and his associates,
and who therefore might well be suspected of receiving a small kickback for their co-operation in these matters.

when i aproached ken ,he told me he didnt care because they can fill it anytime with the students ,
nothing said that i was going there 2 years ago when there was 4 tables max .

I am now working in Gala Birmingham (cardroom) I understand that it is Galas set of rules that these stand, however, I have ammended them slightly with permission from the agm and gm.

I move the big blind

Small blind is the button anyway, haven't read anything in their rules that states otherwise? (edit: in heads up play)

Payout structure to get away from deals as follows

1st      32%
2nd     21%
3rd      12%
4th       8%
5th       7%
6th       6%
7th       5%
8th       4%
9th       3%
10th     2%

Now you are gonna report what i do, I am gonna get rollocked and have to change it back. But Managers have been informed and ok'd the changes.

Karabiner has some very serious issues there. definately write a letter in my opinion. All these will be meaningless when dtd opens and they have no customers at all anyway. Come on Mr yong hurry it along.
