Now Then - Now Then.

Having read the press release regarding the cancellation of the Rivercard festival, detailed below is my reply which I have copied and pasted into this section as this section seems far more popular, and I would be interested in others thoughts.

Now Then - Now Then.

It may - but probably may not - surprise you to hear. That it is people within this industry who are constantly lobbying government to maintain, and even further restrict, tournaments like these.  This also applies to card rooms etc.

It does'nt take a genius to work out who it is, and while all this goes on, we line their pockets.

Think about it.

Links between the "establishment" organisations are very strong, and this applies to the gaming industry as well as many others

Casino and gaming groups...the commission....the government... strong links

Now to put this from a corporate perspective for a moment, it will obviously be worth a gaming group's time and money to have strong lobbying of those who make the decisions re licences. This influence has arguably been seen already in the Gutshot case, the Cavendish club and now the Rivercard festival

From the punter's point of view, the effect is to perpetuate a "semi-closed" shop where choice and genuine competition is restricted
