First off i'll introduce myself, ive been reading this forum for a week or so because i was looking for discussions about the cincinnati club in Glasgow (where i'm from), just to see what it was like and what people thought of it as i was thinking of paying it a visit. I learned to play last year whilst in Ibiza on a particularly hungover day when my mate decided to pull out a pack of cards and teach a few of us and i've been hooked since. I have never played live before bar games with friends but i do play a fair bit online at William Hill (I chose William Hill because I already had an account with them that I used for other stuff)

Now this is where the 'rant' part of my post comes in. This poker software is surely, SURELY, rigged. I mean, i play poker quite a lot and i watch it even more, but i have never seen anything like some of the things i have seen on William Hill Poker. I'm generally not a bitter person and I only play small stakes tournaments so it doesn't really bother me too much, but in my opinion sometimes the tournaments become farcical. They clearly favour the chip leader and my opinion is that they want the tournament to end quickly so that they can get everyone into another. Why would William Hill want people to play a game that lasted ages when they can simply give all the chips to one person and the turnover of tables is a lot faster. I mean bad beats are expected but i have went runs of 9 or 10 tournaments in a row where i have went out on a bad beat, surely this goes way past the point of coincidence or bad luck? Tonight for example i have played 1 tourney, i was short stacked and had to push all-in with A8 and was called by the chip leader who had 77. I hit trip 8's before the river came a 7 and i was out, the saddest thing was i totally expected the 7 to come, even though it mustve been almost a 20 to 1 shot. but that's how many times this kind of thing happens (to me anyway). Dont get me wrong, I can go for spells where i win a lot also, but i can never seem to hold down any consistency (in the long run i break even) and i put it down to some awful bad luck. And when i hear of people making a good profit from playing online I wonder how they do it.

Now i could just be a naiive beginner player who thinks he is unlucky when he is just a bad player, but i really dont think this is the case. I believe myself to have a good grasp on the game and i am quite a tight player, not a complete nutter like most people on those low stakes tourneys. I am not a calling station, I play select hands and I have no problem laying down queens or kings if i think i am behind.  But sometimes my brain cannot comprehend the bad luck i get on there, which leads me to get quite frustrated at times and my love for the game is really tested. Perhaps its because the online game is so quick, i get to see a lot more bad beats than i do on tv (which i watch quite a lot to try and learn as much as possible)

Anyway sorry for the rant, if anyone has an opinion id like to hear it!

Cheers

you get used to the bad beats online. I think because we play so many more hands so quicly onlne that we see so many bad beats.

The thing to recognise is that who and why would they help, it would be more than their bussines is worth. They make all their money from the rake and entrance fees, so have no reason to care who wins.

Welcome Jaimo

I can certainly give the thumbs up to the Cincy club, a nice place to play, good structured tourneys and great lasagne pie.

Bad beats online, well to be honest mate its this simple. No site in the world is going to put their business in jeopardy by providing a corrupt platform to play on. There is no point, they make cash from rake at cash tables and on all sites there is a rake cap, so it doesnt matter to them if the pot is £30 or £300, at a cash game the site will make money on every hand that is played, why would they want to provide outlandish outdraws in big pots when the more hands that are played the more money the will make?

As for tourneys, take a look in the top corner of the Hills site next time you are on, lets say there are 600 active tables in play. The only way you can get a grip of what that actually means is to get 600 packs of cards and deal 10 hands from each pack, then a flop, then a turn and river and see how many hands stand up.

The outdraws will happen just as much live as they do online but your site is playing 600 hands a minute not 1.

Online poker is not rigged. I hope you can continue to enjoy the game and dont be too disheartened by the beats, they go for us and against us in the long run.

All the best.

Going out in 10 tournaments in a row with a bad beat is not unheard of.

Especially is you count losing a race as a bad beat.

Welcome to the forum, but I disagree with your conclusions.

Talking of bad beats, did you see the WPT on TV last night........after the flop one guy was 99.5% to win the hand.......the only 0.5% out, was runner runner 77....and he hit it.

Completely agree with tank, bobby and celtic,by the way, and you will see quite a few discussions about this on Blonde (you can search above).

Welcome to the site, i can say that the cincin club is one of the best clubs i have played in, the standard of players was excellent, the staff are fabulous, and it was dealer dealt, which i think all clubs should have, its a shame i live so far away other wise i would be there every night for a game Cool i must say that the £20 rebuy on friday night with 4000 starting chips was a good game. Dont waste your time on will hill, get to cincin for live action Cool

most new players, me included when I started, go through a period of belief in online poker being rigged. truth is, once you've een playing a while you'll figure out it's not. I play live minimum twice a week, often four times a week and eventually you see just as many amazing occurances live. I've seen a royal flush on the board and I've personally flopped a royal flush twice. I've dealt a straight flush followed by quads to a player in consecutive hands. I've seen a player get AA back to back followed by a third time in the same round. I've seen a player get AA back to back and them both get cracked sending them from chip leader to out of the tourney. I've seen a flop of A,A,A ("ooooh" says the table) 8,8,8 ("dot com" says the table) and 6,6,6 ("devils flop" says the table) I've seen AA v AA split and I've seen AA v AA won by a flush.

As I say, if you put the hours in you'll see everything eventually.

another thing to remember is that live you might see between 20% and 40% of hands go to the river depending on the quality of poker being played. I would guess online you're looking more like 80% hence more river outdraws. online poker isn't rigged but it's quite different in many ways to live poker and you need to adjust both your game and your mind set. expect wierder stuff to happen because online players are often, well, wierd

Jaimo, if the software is conspiring against you, it is because you have not made the required sacrifices to Badbeatius - the poker god.

Gather together a deck of cards, four feet of tinsel and a jar of mango chutney. Tie the tinsel around your LEFT wrist (this is very important) and smear mango chutney over the sevens and the fours of the deck of cards. Eat these cards whilst hopping on your RIGHT foot (again, very important). Once done, return to your computer and tell it that you love it, like a man loves a woman.

This will appease Badbeatius and ensure that every single good hand you are ever dealt will always hold up.

Yes, but you MUST do it in front of the CCTV cameras - it won't work otherwise.

four feet of tinsel and a jar of mango chutney.

Why four feet?

Once done, return to your computer and tell it that you love it, like a man loves a woman.

Will something along the lines of "thats done - sorted, now whats for dinner? <belch>" suffice?

Thats the universal sign for affection in the jungle!!

Thanks for this advice Andrew, I'm going to do this before EVERY session.

I am!! my four feet question was asked as here in the jungle Christmas is not a public holiday as no-one celebrates it therefore we dont keep large hoards of tinsel lying around. There may be a scrap of it somewhere but i may struggle to raise the necessary four feet!!

My second question was asked as monkeys are not renown for being the most emotional of creatures and would therefore struggle to utter the words "I lo....", "I lov...." - see we just cant do it Cry

Trust me - i take the keeping of Badbeatius away from my treehouse very seriously indeed!!
