Still scratching my head with this one. I had read the guy as a fairly solid type.
There was no evidence of him chasing draws. Was it my check on the flop that done for me?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Why are you checking the flop? I'd bet it the vast majority of the time..

Deffinate Bet for me here,

Top pair Top kicker is not really a hand good enough to trap with, So id stick a pot sized bet in, Especially with 2 diamonds on board id like to just take it down on the flop.

Good question in hindsight Bongo.

I was trying to trap him ( my inexperience showing perhaps) into thinking I didn't have the Ace. He
didn't bet on the flop so I bet on the turn and thought he'd either
fold or reraise me. I had considered he may have ace queen or Ace jack
and I'd have him outkicked. When he called my turn bet and went all in
on the river it looked to me like he was trying to force me out but in hindsight
I should have guessed he had the two pair. Maybe not Tens and Jacks but Aces and
Jacks perhaps.
However you are right a strong flop bet should/would have forced him out.

Thanks

If you bet the flop here, he'll call anyway with the pair and the flush draw. You can then shut him out on the blank turn.

this is very true. he'd have to give you respect for the ace if you bet twice.

on that flop a trap is only really a valuable play when the blinds are a few levels higher. and even then it's a risk i'd only take if i really needed the chips.
