Dreams intrigue me
I used to have two recurring dreams.
One I have had since childhood, of being chased through woods by alsatians. I would wake up, soaked in sweat, just after a dog had attached my arm to its mouth.
That dream has long since stopped but to this day I cross the road at the sight of an alsatian near me.
Another I began to have when life was comparatively tough (comparatively for me, not compared to a lot of people) ; work became unenjoyable and stressful etc etc
I would be stuck in a lift, heading down...it would accelerate and I would wake up just before the lift crashed to the floor.
Amazingly this dream stopped the moment I left work and became a loafer.
The inner workings of the human subconscious fascinates me. I have looked and researched and I gather that dreams can be the subconscious' way of focusing your conscious mind on what is troubling you. Apparently the fact that the lift didn't crash to the floor was my way of telling myself "it'll be alright"
Now I wouldn't normally post any of this, I'm not really the type who gives away too much of myself on here too often but the last two nights I have had a couple of corkers, particularly
being at a funeral of an unknown person, me dressed in nothing but a dressing gown with a few other details I'll keep to myself
Cue me spending the next few days trying to work that one out!
Who else is interested in dreams and the psychology of dreams?

I think dreams are the outward signs of you subconscious 'thinking'. It processes data whilst you are asleep and sorts through all the things which normally whizz through your head during the day. Its conclusions then get filed away in your brain, ready to influence your decisions in the future.
This subconscious influence has many different names - some people call it 'instinct', or 'gut feeling', or 'a hunch', but they are all the same sensation - your brain tries to tell you it has already reached a decision about the situation you are currently in; there's no need for any conscious thought.
Now, you only actually remember your dreams (well, I do anyway) when you wake up in the middle of them. This tends to be just as something dramatic happens (the lift crashes into the floor, the alsatian bites your arm, Scarlett Johanssen removes her bra etc). I don't think the actual dream itself has any meaning which would stand up to conscious analysis - it's almost like your brain's screensaver - some images which are shown whilst your brain is occupied.
I would recommend the book Blink, by Malcolm Gladwell - it's all about how we are able to make split-second decisions which are more often correct, when any amount of conscious thinking would actually lead us to an incorrect conclusion - power of the sub-conscious, and all that.

I'll never forget a dream I had when I was 12 or so. It was really lifelike and involved me shouting at my teacher and storming out the classroom and going to sit on the stairs (very out of character). I told my best friend at school about it the next morning. That afternoon, events consipired to leading to me shouting at same teacher and storming out of class. It was only when I was sitting on the stairs outside the classroom in tears that I realised what had happened - I'd dreamt the afternoon's course of events almost exactly as they'd happened. Very weird. Also had vivid dreams of places I'd never visited, and would then 'recognise' them when I did visit to the point that I could tell you what was around the next corner.
I don't have recurring dreams anymore, but used to often dream about being shot in the back, and would always wake up as the bullet hit. I've had lots of dreams over the past couple of weeks about Vegas, including one where I won $30,000 in a poker tournament (will be happy if that turns out to be the 2nd psychic dream of my life!). Last night I dreamt that I called Ian's all in in last night's BP special with my AK and he turned over AJ and I knocked him out instead of letting him go on to win!!!!
On funeral dreams, a colleague of mine dreamt a few months ago that he was at a funeral and his dad (who passed away a few years ago) was sat next to him and mentioned the name of the man whose funeral it was (an old family friend). The next day my colleague's mother called him and told him that the man whose funeral he had dreamt about had passed away during the night.
Fascinating stuff.

Andrew T refers to the book "Blink", which apparently suggests making insta-decisions, instead of out-thinking yourself.
So Chili & I go to Dublin together, & she is raving about this "Blink" book, & reads me endless slabs of it. Yeah yeah yeah.....
I pick up pocket sixes on the Button in the Main Event, with 3 limpers, plus the blinds & decide to try the "Blink" theory. First thought - move all-in & kill the hand. It worked a treat, I would never have been so decisive unless I had heard the "llink" theory.
A shame Matey Boy had limped with Aces though. I blame Blink. And Chili.

I know the book too...it struck a chord with me though....how often, whether it be in poker or in life, should one go with one's first instinct but instead you vacillate and make the wrong choice?
