Guilleme Balligue from Sky Sports has tipped David Villa of Valencia as top scorer at 35/1. Great price for a man who has just scored a hat-trick for Spain.

Spain are also in the weakest group, Group H.

neither does him scoring a hat-trick in his last game - but you still take it into account when working out the value to be had in a bet.

If spain do their usual trick of romping the group then making a mess of the knock-out stage unless they score 12+ goals in the group stage then none of their players will come close to winning the golden boot.

How is this not relevant? It shows form and ability.

Previous Spain teams being underachievers has nothing to do with his form or ability to be top scorer.

Agreed. Maybe not their best XI on paper, but a team that gels better for sure.

Shame about Vicente and Baraja.

Out of curiosity where did Villa score his international hat-trick?

Records show he's only scored for Spain twice, once in a friendly and once in a world cup qualifier/

No idea to be fair. That's just what Balligue said on Sky Sports.

Do you think that David Villa will start for Spain in the World Cup, as he is 35/1 to win the golden boot, and that seems a good bet as he has scored so many this season for Valencia? Do you think he has any chance of winning the golden boot? Thanks, Paul, Liverpool

GUILLEM SAYS: David Villa will surely start in the World Cup and I think he would be the best goalscorer in the tournament. I was thinking about this after his hat-trick - he needs Spain to make it to the semis but even so, he will be scoring our goals, although the system Luis uses benefits the other strikers, too. Spain are not as dependent on Villa as Valencia. But six goals from one striker can win you the title of the best striker in the World Cup and he is capable of that.

I need to learn to read. His hat-trick was obviously in La Liga.

So even Guillem confirms what i said earlier about Spain needing to go far for him to have a chance and i agree he is the best striker spain will be taking to the world cup and is guaranteed to play (as two of the other 4, Raul is well out of form and has hardly played for Madrid and Reyes hasnt played much in the strikers role for Arsenal when he has been selected).

However Spain are not a side i can place much confidence in getting through the knock-out stages of the world cup and if they arent as dependent on Villa as Valencia are for goals then he may not get enough of Spains goals in the world cup to win the golden boot.

I do agree with Guillem in that 6 or 7 will be the likely number that the winner will score - whether it is Villa that gets them only time will tell!!

I think they key factor is the group stage. With Spain's group I think Villa could get as many as 4 in that stage alone.

He likes to score against big sides too.
