As the result of their first National Final, Poker in the Pub.com sent 5 people to Las Vegas at the start of June to enjoy 7 nights of luxury at the Golden Nugget Hotel. This was the culmination of the league’s first year in operation during which time they have given out over £20,000 in prizes and had over 5000 unique players sit down in their local pubs.

During their stay in Vegas the lucky winners played a 6-handed challenge game against two American poker pros for a $1000 seat in the World Series of Poker and $500 spending money. The tournament was sponsored by Card Player and included former bracelet winner Diego Cordovez who was ranked the 6th best U.S tournament player a few years ago. Also playing was poker funny-man Adam Schoenfeld who is a well known player on the American circuit and Dominik Karelus from Card Player. Al Burke, Andy Price and Steve Rawlings were the three Poker in the Pub representatives who sat down to try and best the American pros. It really was a case of David and Goliath especially considering that the 3 Brits were still nursing sore heads from the night before, after experimenting with how quickly they could get free drinks whilst playing 1 cent slot machines. It turns out that as long as your tips keep flowing so do the White Russians! It was a lively affair with Adam making sure that there was plenty of banter. The Poker in the Pub players proved their worth and in a tough contest the Poker in the Pub National Final runner up Andy Price took the WSOP seat heads up against Adam Schoenfeld.

Unfortunately Andy was not able to do quite as well in the World Series but he was sat down next to poker legend Barry Greenstein and was able to take down a big pot against the great man himself. The Rio Casino was a far cry from Andy’s local boozer and it was only afterwards that it really began to sink in that he had played in the World Series of Poker. All the winners had a fantastic week in Vegas and Poker in the Pub is looking to make the next year even bigger and better.
