LAS VEGAS (July 13, 2007) – Milwaukee’s Best Light, presenting sponsor of the World Series of Poker (WSOP) and host of the Main Event’s second annual 'Bubble Playoff', today awarded a seat for the 2008 World Series of Poker to Lee Dryer of Franklin, TN.The Bubble Playoff, a single-table free-roll poker event, gave the final nine players eliminated 'out of the money' in this year’s Main Event a second chance at a payday. Poker skill and a little luck helped Dryer claim the seat for next year’s Main Event, valued at $10,000, along with a year’s supply of Milwaukee’s Best Light beer. After the near-miss in the Main Event, Lee was grateful to leave The Rio with something to show for four grueling days of poker.
“I was despondent to be knocked out right on the bubble in the Main Event, particularly because I had enough chips in front of me to make the money,” Dryer said. “But I gathered myself last night and thought about how exciting it would be to leave Vegas with a seat in the 2008 Main Event. I’m thankful Milwaukee’s Best Light gave me that opportunity.”
In the Bubble Playoff, Lee bested Ronald Toledo of Edmonton in the heads-up battle, with Lee’s K-7 off-suit beating Ron’s A-9 suited when he flopped a King. The turn and river brought no help to Ronald.
“I’m excited for Lee that he can for a full year look forward to returning to the Main Event,” said Kevin Rutherford, Senior Brand Manager for Milwaukee’s Best Light. “That is why we hold the Bubble Playoff, to give great poker players who just missed the money the opportunity to return to the richest poker tournament in the world and give it another shot.”
The other players who competed in the second annual Bubble Playoff, in addition to Lee and Ron were: Neil Chriss from New York, Robert Clothier from Colorado Springs, Georges Sebag from France, Scott Gray from Ireland, Tim Duckworth from Melbourne, Robert Thompson from Allenstown, NH and John Sigan from Strongsville, OH.
