Anyone catch my silly ‘tiler’ pun? Nope? Eek.
snoopy bows his head in shame.
Anyhow, whilst the big event of the week was notably at the Vic, we must also acknowledge the achievements of blondeite Matt Tyler in Estonia.
This past weekend saw the climax of the William Hill Baltic Open at the Olympic Casino in Tallinn. With Matt having already scooped €8,200 for his first place finish in the €500 comp, he now found himself challenging for the title in the Main Event. Just greedy if you ask me!
Also present in Estonia were the William Hill clan, ‘Smokin’ Steve Vladar, Xuyem ‘Bad Girl’ Pham, and Julian ‘Yoyo’ Thew. Although this motley crew were forced into early exits with Yoyo experiencing ‘a bit of a frustrating day’, two other Brits were still plugging away. With just ten warriors remaining, blonde’s Jim Buckley (Splash) and Matt Tyler (B4Matt) were both in with a good shout. However, with lady luck not on his side, it wasn’t to be for Splash who took the dreaded bubble spot when his pocket tens were outdrawn by ace queen.
So, with Matt left holding the reigns against a fearsome batch of Scandinavians, it was time to grit his teeth and show our foreign friends how to play poker. Unfortunately, there’s not much you can do when you are pushed down to the felt with your A-Q being rivered by an A-4 holding.
Fresh off his victory earlier in the week, Matt eventually pulled out a third spot finish for an impressive €16,000 when he ran his top pair into a set of sixes. Although partly disappointed at not having taken the title, this was still a great performance amid a week that brought some welcome financial rewards.
In the end, it was popular Swede and part-time TV celebrity Ken Lennard who snatched top spot and a tasty cheque for 52k. A pretty satisfying return for his €2,000 entry, I think you’d agree.
But, from a blondepoker point of view, well done Matt!!! Ayyyyaaaarrrr!
