After capturing the services of Norwegian poker princess Annette Obrestad during last year's World Series of Poker Europe, Betfair have been poker shopping once more and can now reveal online superstar Sorel Mizzi as their latest acquisition.
Having been teased earlier on in the week, many poker fanatics were wondering who would be the latest player to don the Betfair colours, and during a press conference at the Scandinavian Open in Copenhagen, that lucky player was finally revealed.
With an impressive record at the virtual felt and a name that is constantly on people's lips, a sponsorship was always a possibility for Sorel. From dominating the high stake SNGs to scooping thousands in online multis, Sorel 'Imper1um' Mizzi has cemented his position as one of the online world's most talented players. Canadian Mizzi has also prevailed on the live scene, cashing in the WPT Grand Final and finishing 3rd in 2007's Irish Open for an impressive €210,000, so has already proved that he is more than capable of transferring his online success over to the live felt.
With Sorel Mizzi and Annette Obrestad on board, Betfair can boast a most terrifying front line and will be hoping Sorel is able to emulate the enormous success of Annette. With the weapons he has in his poker arsenal, I, or anyone else for that matter, won't be surprised if he does.
