paddypowerpoker.com, the home of the €3 Million Guaranteed Irish Open, today announces details of its players who have qualified for Europe’s most prestigious poker tournament. The Irish Open main event, which has a capacity of 1,000 players, begins this Thursday, 20th March at 2pm.

Ireland’s biggest poker site will be sending 73 of its players to Citywest Hotel in Dublin for the Irish Open as they compete for a minimum first prize of €800,000. All 64 players who qualified through paddypowerpoker.com’s Grand Final Satellites will be competing in Paddy First, the tournament within a tournament, which could see one of them walking away with 5 years free entry to the Irish Open.

If one of these players wins the 2008 Irish Open they will have their buy-ins covered for the next half decade. The longest lasting Paddy First qualifier will win free entry to the 2009 Irish Open even if they do not win the tournament outright. The Paddy First players will be playing in distinctive green paddypowerpoker.com jerseys and will be easy to spot even amongst the huge field.

Six further players will also be playing in the Irish Open courtesy of Paddy Power Poker having earned free tickets through the site’s VIP Go Free promotion.  These 6 VIP players earned the required 750,000 Paddy Points and will be freerolling in Europe’s oldest and largest poker tournament.

John Donnelly, the winner of paddypowerpoker.com’s Battle of the Mags promotion will be there too, having won his Irish Open ticket as part of his prize package from that tournament. “It is a dream to play at the Irish Open”, said Donnelly, who has only ever attended the event as an eager spectator. “I can’t wait to pit my wits against some of the biggest names in world poker!”

A further two players have also been handed the hottest tickets in town thanks to victories in special giveaway tournaments on the site.

The Irish Open main event begins at 2pm on Thursday with registration closing at 12 noon. Players looking to register on the day are advised to arrive early to avoid disappointment.
