Well, with Southampton, Barcelona, Sheffield, and The Western all providing some hot poker action, it sure was a busy week, and there were quite a few eye-opening hands witnessed.
This week, I've decided to highlight 1 hand from each of these locations, the first being one that I was privelaged to see first hand. I have to confess, I love a bad beat from hell when I'm not the unfortunate victim, and you can't get much more bad beaty than this...
Hand 1
South of England Championships -- Southampton...
All the chips move in on a flop of:
Antony Hughes =
A Miles (left) =
Iain Abrahams =
Miles is the shorstack, then Hughes, with Iain holding the most amount of chips.
Look set in stone with the Ace on the flop, but...
Turn =
River =
RIGGED!!!
It wouldn't happen online...
Soon after that Hughes made his exit with A-K v pocket fives. Five on the turn sealed the deal.
Hand 2
World Heads Up Championships - Barcelona...
This was the crucial hand in the final between Paul 'Actionjack' Jackson (left) and young Spaniard Isaac Mayolas. Perhaps an indication that it wasn't to be Paul's night...
Paul bet a flop of 9c 7d 4h. Isaac called.
Paul then also bet the 4d turn, Isaac called once again.
River = 9s.
Isaac leads out for 4,200.
Paul calls and shows pocket queens.
Isaac flips A-9
Hand 3
With just 13 players remaining at the Western, David Lloyd is propelled into third place with the following spot of good fortune.
Two all-ins... Dave Lloyd and Dave Binstock both hold A-9.
The flop sees 1 club and two blanks.
The turn comes a raggy club.
... before the third club on the river hits, giving David Lloyd a club flush.
Particularlry cruel as Binstock needed a top 9 finish to get his his mits on the $8500 package to Turks and the Caicos Islands and this double-up would surely have had his Mrs packing those suitcases.
Hand 4
Sheffield...
Well, seeing as the previous three have centred around outdraws and tough beats, how about a cheeky bluff. This one was reported by our ring-site updater... the one and only Mr tikay Kendall...
"We just saw a quite remarkable hand involving Big Dave Smith and Kaz Kurbi.
Dave Smith had raised pre-flop, and Kaz had defended in the small blind.
Flop was....
Kaz checked, Dave Smith bet, Kaz called.
Turn,
As before - Kaz checks, Dave bets, Kaz, after a lengthy dwell, calls.
River....
Kaz now comes out betting, the full 25k+ pot.
Dave dwells too, before saying, 'you must have caught the straight then, I pass'.
At which, Kaz turns over
.....
Proper Poker!"
