For those who either don’t recall our news item from a few weeks back, or simply missed out on their birth back in November, the World Poker Association (W.P.A) is poker’s only membership based organisation, aimed at elevating the game into the heights of those sports which already have similar, and clearly successful, governing bodies.

And, as has been predicted all along, the body is coming on in leaps and bounds and looks set to grab the game by the scruff of the neck. If their latest acquisition is anything to go by, then such a shake up really could happen.

Earlier today, it was officially announced that the Swedish Poker Federation, of which boasts in excess of 4,000 members, had joined forces with the W.P.A. The deal was finalized by two big guns in poker; part-time TV celebrity Ken Lennard (left), who simultaneously chairs the S.P.F, and W.P.A founder and poker player Jesse Jones, both of whom are rumoured to be delighted by the advancement.

This Swedish addition means that many players of Lennard’s calibre could well be joining the W.P.A, thereby becoming a significant part of the 100+ members, of which superstars such as Phil Hellmuth, Barry Greenstein, and current WSOP champ Joe Hachem are all currently listed.

This particular reporter advises you to watch this space regarding the W.P.A. They are clearly intent on making a success of this venture, and acquiring the services of the S.P.F, a body which safeguards players who take the game exceedingly serious, is a massive step forward.

With the WSOP approaching, and interest in poker almost guaranteed to explode once again, I wouldn’t be surprised to see W.P.A increase their numbers at an eye-opening rate. So keep your eyes peeled…
