Rob Yong: Dusk Till Dawn announce 7 day opening
From Wednesday 30th September, Dusk Till Dawn, Europe's largest poker club will be increasing it opening days from 5 to 7.
The club will be running two different tournaments each night, starting at 8.00pm and 8.15pm, and the new weekly schedule will include 4 tournaments specifically for beginners with entry fees of £10 and £15.
Owner, Rob Yong, believes this will give poker players more choice and will benefit the club when they hold their larger monthly events.
"By opening 7 days we are able to introduce a number of different tournaments to cater for different tastes, bankrolls and experience, we will also be now able to recruit more staff so that we can hold our major monthly events 'in 'house. Last month we had 600 people turn up for our £100k Deepstack Weekend and had to fly in freelance poker dealers from France to cope. With the launch of a further new monthly event, the £40k 'Twenty Twenty', where we expect over 500 entries each month, having more dealers will become even more important."
In September, the club hosted the English Poker Open, players paid $5k to play for a prize pool of over $1m, the tournament was a resounding success and it is hoped that this will become an annual event at Dusk Till Dawn. Some of the most famous players in the world attended, including world champions Doyle Brunson, Phil Helmuth and Dave 'The Devilfish' Ulliot.
"The EPO sponsors were very pleased with how the tournament went, we had over 2000 people come through the doors that week and our staff did a brilliant job, we were in the spotlight and it was important that we did an excellent job as we would like to host more of these type of events in the future, this was our 5th televised event that has been I am looking forward to watching it."
In July, the poker club was hit with extra taxation of over £500,000 due to changes in the law that meant it would be taxed and treated like a full casino. There had been worries that the club may have been forced to close or sell top one of the larger casino groups.
"It was a very tough time for everyone, after all of the hard work put in by our staff, the new poker tax felt like a real kick in the teeth, however, we have dusted ourselves down, paid every penny of the tax and we will soldier on. We had a few decent offers to buy us out, but it just didn't feel right to chuck the towel in after trading for less than 18 months, especially since it took so long through the courts to even get the place open."
Dusk Till Dawn are now looking to recruit more poker dealers and hospitality staff, previous experience is not necessary as full training will be given, please email jobs@dusktilldawnpoker.com for further details.
