A Sell Out field of 150 Sky Poker Players came to the G Casino, Luton to play Leg three of the 2009-10 Sky Poker Tour.
In an exciting atmosphere a swift rate of exits meant the tournament was down to two tables by mid evening. At that point three players were making the running. Ross Jarvis and David Gee on one table, and Tony Stroud on the other. Stroud in particular had a key hand when his Pocket Kings withstood Gavin Kan's flopped top pair and open ended straight draw to take him to a final table that looked assured for some time previous.
Amongst the nine final table players were former professional footballer Micky Hazard, who was to finish 9th playing his first ever live event and Sky Poker analyst Trevor Harris who was to finish a creditable 6th. Also present on the final table were two former Total Player contestants. Phil (Phil12UK) Jenkins, finishing 4th and Tony (Penguin) Stroud finishing runner up.
It was Tony Stroud who took charge of the early stages of the final table, clashing with chip-leader David Gee when Stroud raised with Ace-Ten and Gee called with Ace-King. A board that brought two pair for Stroud saw both chip-stacks in the middle. Stroud hung on to his post-flop advantage and became an overwhelming chip leader with seven players remaining. However gradually by virtue of constant re-raising aggression Ross Jarvis wrested the initiative from the other players and by the time he was Heads-Up with Stroud had a chip lead. Heads-Up play was brief and Jarvis' Ace Six won against Stroud's Ten-Jack, all-in pre-flop on the first hand.
So Ross Jarvis, a journalist for Poker Player Magazine, won SPT Luton, winning £4,000 for doing so. The next leg of the Sky Poker Tour is at the Alea Casino, Glasow on Sautrday 8th May.
