Sky Poker Tour Swansea Report
The fifth leg of the 2009-10 Sky Poker Tour took place at the Aspers Casino in Swansea on Saturday 24th July. 150 Sky Poker Players played the £15,000 prize pool event with the winner, Mark Brittain (Ratboy71) receiving £4,000 and the top three finishers including Chris Blaynee (Diggerman) and John Hier (Redjon) also winning entry into the Sky Poker Tour Grand Final taking place at DTD in Nottingham in September.
The Swansea Leg of the Sky Poker Tour was notable for the presence in the field of 2010 WSOP Bracelet winner James Dempsey who finished just outside the money positions. Chip-leader for a long way in the competition was Steve Luke (Donatello11) who won a huge pot to eliminate David Llewellyn (Daiboot), Aces against Ace-King, with two tables left. Also going deep were local qualifiers John Hier, Carl Williams and Alan Thomas to ensure a strong Welsh contingent made the final table.
Ratboy71 made the final table but only 8th out of 10 in chips. Through a series of aggressive plays and winning confrontations he soon found himself three-handed, level in chips with Diggerman and Redjon. After a long battle John Hier (Redjon) was knocked out in 3rd.
Heads up Diggerman took Pocket Eights against Ratboy71s Ace-Eight. A cruel Ace on the river won the hand and the tournament for Ratboy71.
The final event of the 2009-2010 Sky Poker Tour is the Grand Final at DTD in September. Satellite Qualifiers for this 250 Player event are beginning this week on Sky Poker for what promises to be a fantastic climax to the current season of the Sky Poker Tour.
